to trackdays? I only have one set of helmet/suit/boots/gloves, trying to decide whether or not to drop $ on backup gear. Seems like an extra helmet at a minimum might be good.
Maybe extra stuff if it's gonna rain.

Are you planning on doing a few trackdays or are you an addict? If your just a recreational "user" then I personally wouldn't purchase one just for that purpose. In the very slim odds that you'll need one then you can probably borrow one or buy one from a vender at the track. Same goes for gloves. However if your a full on addict then it's probably a good idea. Just like rain tires mounted on spare wheels. The bonus is that if you bring that stuff you'll probably never need it.

I bring my street stuff, which passes requirements, but just because I have it.
I bring my older helmet, spare gloves (if I can find them) and rain gear. I always bring rain gear.

If you run into a wall with a helmet on, you still ran into a wall.
An extra helmet, gloves and some black duct tape has kept me on the track a few times. Gloves seem to be one and done with me. I used to think if I needed a spare suit i would be too fucked up to ride any more, but, now I know that's not the case.
Bike parts and tools can be and endless list, how much room you got?

I've never brought an extra suit or boots. I do bring extra gloves and my "good" street helmet just in case. But mostly because I have room. I have become mindlessly addicted. So what I used to call my "old backup street helmet" is now called my "track day helmet". But really, it's the same helmet its always been.
I would not go out and buy stuff as a backup. I rotate my helmets/gloves/boots every 2 or 3 years, so the old stuff becomes the "backup" stuff... and that always resides in the trailer just in case.
As others have said, there is usually enough spare stuff around should you need it.
Helmet, gloves and rain gear for me as well. Never was in a situation I couldn't borrow something from someone
Bring a credit card.
I'm thinking upgrade my 3 yr old helmet, bring the old one as backup, try to borrow the rest if I need to. Thanks for the sanity check all, saving me from stupid winter purchases.
Depends on how far you are driving. For just a trackday if you arent far dont go nuts. I drive 5-6hrs and am at the races 3-4 days so always have extra helmet, gloves, leathers, visors etc.
I also always have levers & spares since they always go. Tons of zip ties and duck tape. Stash an extra bike key somewhere (magnet box under your vehicle). It can save you huge nightmares.
My gear bin has extra boots, extra gloves, and an extra helmet.
The boots are my previous race boots. The gloves were bought when a good deal came up to have a spare. They've been loaned more than I've worn them. My race/track helmets get rotated to street duty after a couple of seasons (if they make it through) and I get a new track helmet. At the 5 year mark it gets retired from street duty and the rotations happens again. Usually 2-3 years. The "street" helmet comes with me as a backup at the track.
I only bring spare gloves. Anything else I may need I can buy or borrow. The spare things I do make sure to bring are extra under armor/undersuit for the two day events.
I'm lazy and the only things that come out of my truck between races/track days are the stuff that goes in the bed (bike, stands, cooler, gas can, rain wheels). so from April to October the back seat of my truck is filled with 2 suits, 2 sets of warmers, 2 helmets, 2 pairs of gloves, back protector, 2 chairs, small tool box, bins of spares and chemicals and 1 pair of boots which is the only gear I don't have a back up for.
