I had no idea there are that many newbies attending. I kinda pictured it as being a bunch or racers trying to get in more track time to better themselves and hating guys like me for being in the way(even with the class breakdowns).

Well I'm glad you guys are all saying these things because it got rid of alot of the stereotypes in my head of the how the days would be.
    seriously thanks guys and gals.

With Tony's Trackdays, racers need permission to attend, so attitudes are kept to a minimum.

Trust me, you will quickly become addicted to track riding. The people that you will meet are more then friendly and helpful.

That would be called "Practice" not a Trackday.

Trackday organizations frown on racers being racers.

You're not alone. This is the #1 reason why more people don't attend track days. At Tony's we cater to street riders and make the experience as unintimidating as possible. Other organizations cater to more aggressive riders or racers, but not us.

We don't say "move out of the way". We ask riders on fast bikes to not blast down the straight when you've been holding up slower bikes in the corners. The best way to make sure you aren't about to piss anyone off is to glance over your shoulder once on the straight. If you see a bike on your ass, then roll on the throttle more gradually. If no one is there, let 'er rip.

As far as track position goes, don't move over, just stay away from the wall so faster riders can safely get by.

Yup, had the same thoughts a while ago. Have wanted to do a td for over 2 years but seemed to not commit. Then RyanNichoson came up with the thread along the lines of "why are people scared/apprehensive of doing a TD". Followed by Doc making me realize I was waaaay over thinking the thing about "crashn' out" and hurting my only ride. I said f' it and will be FINALLY doing a td in july and am getting as wet as a prom date looking forward to it. I think I'm already the guy that can't STFU. But for a good reason.

And watch some of the vids on Tonys TD page. Just seeing the simple x's made me realize these guys are here to help make better riders out of TD participants without expecting race qualifiers. I can't frickin wait.

    Re: lappers...

I love to give this scenario at a TTD (Tony Track Day) to someone that is new the track. Close your eyes and picture this.... a slightly spirited street ride with no manhole covers, no dirt on the surface, no police, no speed limits, no animals jumping out from a tree line, no oncoming traffic with all of your closest friends……Ahhhhhh Blisssssss………. And at the end of the day I guarantee you that you will have the most amazing riding stories to tell even without these obstacles that would normally get your heart filled with adrenalin.

I attended my first TTD 8 years ago on a brand new 2000 CBR 929 with only 300 miles on the clock. Let me tell you about being nervous and anxious at the same time. I see this every track day before some one is about to go out on a follow the leader session. At the end of the day I'll check in with them and they have the biggest on there face. This always reminds me of my first track day experience and reminds me why I love instructing.

As mentioned earlier. Check your ego at the door and open you mind to all kinds of possibilities. You are about to enter a whole different yet fun filled learning experience. Nothing could be better.

There are plenty of Instructors and Control riders out there that will be able to help you on and off the track.

Still great to have the encouragement coming in guys. This place is great. Was talking about it last night on the phone with Pigman and I'm gonna have to make this happen. I feel giddy as a school girl, although it may just be my dress and panties that's making me feel this way.

I remember hearing this as I approached my first TD, and it really caused me concern. From a first timer who had never been to the track, never been around the track i'll be honest... I had no effing clue what it meant and I spent way to much time worrying about it.... thinking I would mess up and hurt someone For those teaching/running etc a TD, please don't forget until we hit the first classroom session many "newbs" have no idea what a line is... but can easily do it... might not have ever heard it "termed" this way.. (like my driving test when they asked me to do a K turn. I had no idea what a K turn was and all I thought was I just failed my exam... he then just told me to turn around on a two lane road and I did it perfect. I just had never heard it called a K turn before)

That's the good thing about Tony's Track Days....all newbies are required to be in the red group and have a classroom session with Ken C. before they ever get out on the track. He'll teach you the basics and build on it throughout the day with additional classroom sessions. The other instructors are also very approachable and will help you with any questions you may have beyond the classroom session. Don't be afraid to ask questions...they all know what it's like to be a newbie.

Now get out there and sign up!!! Trust me...you'll have a blast!

The ability to "slow down" safely is also an art. At NH, for example, people are expecting you to accelerate out of Turn 12 onto the straight. If you don't, you could easily get rear ended.

The skill part is to accelerate, but not completely... and do not drift to the very outside. Only when you're straight up and down and well away from the wall should you consider taking a peek back. The benefit of taking a look is to see if there is no one, 1 bike, or a full stack. If a full stack, then you might want to put up an arm and just cruise down the straight until the whole pack goes by.

The goal is to eliminate bottlenecks... especially at the entry of Turn 1.

Having said all this... it is not a requirement. Just something that we've learned can lead to everyone having a safer and more enjoyable day.
