So the wife and I have been married for 10 yrs , and she suggested that we go for a ride to celebrate it. Some place overnight .
We looked at the forcast for the weekend and scattered thunderstorms were on the menu , but it didn;t look to be a show stopper .
so we made a reservation in lake placid for last night .
We left saturday morning on wet roads but it wasn;t raining anymore , the sun was shining shortly after and the roads were dry . We did some of our fun local twistie back roads and headed up rt 100 through VT to rt 17 . As we made the crest to the summit of the App Gap, there stood at the rest area a guy that if it wasn't Randy, it was his twin brother , I was too busy having fun in the corners to notice or I was going too fast to notice , leah was pretty sure it was him .
We made it to the other end of 17 when the skies looked dark, err BLACK!
but according to the route on the garmin , it appeared as though we were going to head just south enough to sneak in behind the storm that was heading east. But as it turns out we turned and headed north right up the middle of it . We were already 250 miles into the day so turning back was not an option . Needless to say the last 50 miles to the hotel were "interesting" on twistie roads , we got soaked to the bone through our " water proof" textile riding gear , we did have to pull over at a gas station for a bit as we just couldn;t see anymore. There was all sorts of rain , big ole fat rain, side ways rain ,, upsidedown rain .
It appeared to be letting up so we journied onward, but it started pouring again , we finally made it to the hotel , cold and dripping wet, as I stood in the lobby dripping all over the floor I signed for the room and got the paperwork wet , bluring the signature but they took it anyway , the rain stopped about 20 minutes later and the sun came out . Good thing they had a hot tub to warm up in , we were cold .
We hung our stuff up to dry and it was still a bit damp in the morning , the original forcast for sunday was scattered showers and in the 60ies , but we went out to the bikes to find it sprinkling , and 38 degrees . We got ready to leave, and my bike wouldn't start, WTF ? so we pop the seats off and hook up the jumper cables but that didn't work either , come to find out my battery terminal bolts had vibrated loose and were off just enough to have an effect, got that squared away , and we left in drizzle wearing damp riding gear. Luckily the further south we went the warmer it got, the skies cleared and the sun was shining .
About 1/2 hr south of the hotel we come to a road block , its US customs / border patrol , turned out to be a simple check point, got the usual questions while the dog took a good sniff, and on our way we went .
Stopped for gas , and leah's bike wouldn;t start. WTF ? turned on and off the key, started right up , the FI must have had a brain fart.
We ended up with just shy of 600 miles and for the most part it was dry and enjoyable, much like the past 10 years, its a good ride for the most part with a few "stormy sections" thrown in , but overall its been a good trip .

I was taking a beak, at that point I had almost 800 miles for the day, I got up early and went to New Jersey for breakfast then on to my Dad's house in Vermont (only about 15 miles from the gap)

I have IXS leah has MOTOPort granted it is a couple years old and it was coming down in buckets but still.
I will say that the oxtar boots I had and the IXS boots that she has kept our feet dry. The kicker is that we have full on rain gear that was on the shelf in the garage , but we didn;t need it as it was only a "chance" of scattered thunder storms .
Randy, small world . no we didn't do hurricane road, but still had a good ride .
Dave, we stayed at the comfort inn right on the lake , they had a pool and hot tub, there were a handful of resturants with in walking distance , a gas station across the street to buy some beers , and they had a continental breakfast included.
