1969 CB750 on eBay - this should be a fun auction to watch

Someone's selling a very rare prototype CB750 on eBay right now. Link. It's already bid up to almost $121k in 42 bids with a week left. The bike's history is an interesting read.

Damn, that's wild. I brought a '71 back from the dead a couple years ago. If only it had been a '69!

It is arguably one of the most influential designs in 2 wheeled history, pretty much the granddaddy of every transverse chain drive overhead cam 4 in the world. You could probably say it helped put Triumph, BSA, Norton, Matchless, Vincent, Arial, Indian and Henderson out of business, "What a proper bike that doesn't leak oil like a sieve???

Probably not a good choice for a track bike, right?

Certainly true of the first three, but the rest were already out of business by the time the CB750 came around.

Honda probably has at least a couple of the other three in their possession.

Re: 1969 CB750 on eBay - this should be a fun auction to watch

No doubt this is a historic bike but it's hard for me to imagine any CB750 being really valuable. They're kind of like the Mazda Miata of motorcycles -- they were great and all but they made a gazillion of them and part of their appeal was that they were cheap when new.

Yes, this one was a prototype and has rough castings, but does that justify 100x the normal price?

I suppose that, despite being an awful lotta money, I would prefer that over a used phone with some silly game on it.
