only 600 miles on oil does it really matter?

Im finally gonna put her up on stands for the winter. I really dont feel like wasting oil. I changed it only 6 or 700 miles ago. I figure ill just pull out the battery, add some stabil and wait for a few months. thoughts opinions?? The thread on here about oil becoming acidic from combustion was cool but com'on were talking about a couple of months with relatively new oil..

Dude, who are you kidding, you know you're going to change it. Just go pick up a jug of some cheap stuff to toss in there for the winter nap and call it good?

only 600 miles on oil does it really matter?

Good tip is to put the old oil in the radiator over the winter (so the radiator/hoses don't freeze) and put 2-stroke pre-mix oil in the engine cases. This is because the premix keeps everything coated nice just sitting there and it's super smooth.

Come spring put everything back to 'normal'.

    Seriously.

only 600 miles on oil does it really matter?

If you don't change the oil after winter is over you will need to change your clutch after your first ride in the spring. When oil sits it loses viscosity because it isn't getting stired.

The acid eats the metal in your engine and transmission causing all the tolerances to loosen up which in turn makes the bike faster. Remember, loose is fast.

Pour about half a gallon of milk in the crankcase to offset the acidity. It's a pretty safe base that you can use to neutralize the PH. Or get some of that PH down liquid that they use on swimming pools and hottubs.

No, No, No... You want to use vegetable oil in the radiator, and kersosene in the crankcase... The vegetable oil makes sure everything is lubricated, and the kerosene makes sure there is no sludge buildup...

Doesn't PH down make it more acidic? I think he wants PH up. A cheep substitute is baking soda or Borax. He could mix it with a little bit of milk to make a nice paste which can easily be spooned into the tranny.

Rumor has it, the MotoGP guys drain their bikes completely and hang 'em upside down during the offseaon, even drain the battery acid and look how fast they go!

    Well that's settled

Now how do you handle your blinker fluid.

I usually just strain it through an old pair of pantyhose and then put the same stuff back in.

If you fill your tires with helium like you should the bike will float to the ceiling and remain upside down up there till the summer. Thats how the MotoGP guys really do it

Mythbusters just had a show about filling a football with helium. The myth is that it achieves more hang time and thus can go further. I didn't watch it though to see if it works or not.

A13x are you sure about the oil in the Radiator thing? I heard power sterring fluid is the way to go.

If you put 2 stroke oil in the cases then does it make it a 2-Stroke? Do I need to then rejet?

    Interesting post!!!

I dunno. I heard a few squirts of "happy juice", from your own body, really helps with the lubricity and coating of parts in the crankcase.
