Interesting video about an English guy who builds 1/4-scale models of '70's race bikes in his shed.

That was really cool. I get the impression Adam Savage is one of the happiest people alive. The guy seems to just love whatever it is he is doing. I've been accused of being like that too.
Building 1/4 scale operating engines is a thing. Tons of vids on YouTube. Insanely great craftsmanship.

I used to think I was a patient person. I am not.

There's a model engineering show in Waltham every year:
N.E.M.E.S. Model Engineering Show — Charles River Museum
This is a cool museum to begin with but the show itself is really impressive. Lots of retired super-expert machinists trying to challenge themselves with difficult projects.
I remember walking by one table and this guy had this incredibly detailed WWI airplane engine model on a stand -- it was the kind where the cylinders rotate and the crankshaft is stationary. It was so detailed with all this custom weird hardware that I thought it was a static model. I asked the guy if it would run and he said, "Of course it does!" and he then started it up.
