Back to the CVT, I think it takes away from the purist side of motorcycling. Those who don't want to shift probably shouldn't be on a bike. Actually they don't deserve to be on one.

Well I have to admit that they must have worked real hard to
get that helmet in there and not have it look like a
fat pig! Lets see storage for pumpkins, watermelons,
decapitated heads...
Its not a bad bike. I was just jumping on the back wagon,
everyone needs a little rag on Pete time at least once in their life.
Plus Kham needs a break once in awhile, right?

it's "bandwaggon" :twofinger

I think it is cool as hell. Not that I would want one...but
for instance my Dad wanted a bike was too intimidated by too many controls. He still got himself out on two wheels for the first time at age 68. If this means that a whole new group of riders could get out there cause they can avoid the learning curve for using a clutch it's great.

I always thought that motorcyclists were a family of people with different taste but still on two wheels. I like the fact that they are making advancements in technology and appreciate the helmet storage. Would i buy one over a hypermotard...no effing way, but i can be happy that people are trying new things and if it gets someone on a bike who was intimidated because of the clutch i'll gladly ride with them....as long as their not an asshole like Pete!!!!
See you can agree with Pete and still bash on him at the same time. Although you do have to be smart enough to know that it's bandwagon(i got to correct both of you).

That's not for your helmet --
It's for the newspaper, women's makeup and cell phones

Hey, I bet all the people that ride those do it so they can talk on their cell phones while they're goin down the road.
u know... while they're wearing a helmet.
Did I say I wanted one? No. I just admire the development of the technology.
*hisss hisss* easy killa! I wasn;t completely serious with that whole thing. Personally I dont like it and yes it does take away from the purist aspect of riding a bike. If thats your bag they go for it.

right, i agree... but it's not meant to be a purist bike. It's meant to explore new technology.

New technology? You do realise that Honda put automatic transmissions in motorcycles almost 30 years ago, right? And scooters have been using CVTs for quite some time. So the technology isn't new, Aprilia is just trying to market something that hasn't been successful in the past.
The fact is that the motorized two-wheeler market is pretty cleanly divided between motorcycle people, who want a manual transmission, and scooter people, who want an automatic (and a step-through design). A motorcycle that operates like a scooter is a hybrid between two different market segments. Previous attempts to bridge this gap have failed. It'll be interesting to see whether Aprilia is any more successful than Honda was, but my hunch is that they won't be.
I understand that you find the technology interesting, Pete, but are you going to buy one? Most people won't... and those who are interested will likely buy a Suzuki Burgman or something instead for the added comfort (and probably much less money).

ok, fine... "developing old technology"
and I already said I wouldn't buy one. I don't need a commuter bike, nor can I afford one. If i were riding around in the city alot & had the money then yes, I probably would look into it more, especially w/ my bad left wrist... constantly using the clutch in traffic is HELL on my wrist.

A review from some guy in the UK on another forum.

It can be ridden as a totally automatic or you can go up or down gears at will via the foot switch ala a 'normal' bike or the + or - buttons on the bar where the clutch lever should be. The gear changes are smooth as silk.
The bike has a false fuel tank which lifts up with enough space for a full face lid. If I were comuting in London regularly I would definitely get one. The seat is super comfy and the sit up and beg bars are ideal for commuting mode. The only downer is the price, a hefty £6,300.

as jeremy clarkson would say, " its gota flappy paddle gearbox"
i like the suspension.
