That's some bullshit.
FWIW, I went 2-for-2 at my track days. Once because there were too many n00bs and too little track and once because 11-12 in the rain has a way of making your bike disappear out from under you.
I still had fun... and went down :teehee:

Quantitative questions:
How many riders go down on an average track day?
How many riders are there?
How many miles get ridden?
What I am trying to do: Understand a general level of risk for all track days. I am not trying to apply it to an individual, or a single track or track day company. Just trying to get an idea.
What's vague about that?
What's vauge is "go down", don't you need to define or refine "go down" or Crash, or did I miss something?
A simple tip over vs bodily injury as an example.
stat concerning racing and crashing.
650 racers in 365 races completing 72950 racing miles, the statistical norm of miles before any rider will crash is 307.2 miles.

So, by my math, give or take 100% there's about 1 crash per 1,500 miles ridden on normal track days.
Another concern with your logic.
A rider crashes after 3 laps (this can be typical) The riders bike cant' be fixed therefore can't ride the rest of the day - due to mechanical . .... how do you factor this in
the stat would really bias results on ridden miles/crash and mean nothing except Street and comp didn't have a lever.

You need to factor in Total avaiabe miles not what was ridden....
Graham is bored....season better start soon!!!

Re: On average, how many riders go down on a track day?
Very...
and finally. If you are going to ride a bike on the street- woudn't it be nice to practice your craft with a safety net?
Think of a track day as a saftey net...
If you were to crash would you rather do it on a track or on the street?
That's why many folk say a track day is a safer place to practice your craft.....
come on guys and gals...this is fun

But Graham. What if I don't want to crash at ALL? What should I do then? :D

I started a logic-filled reply weeks ago, then deleted it to help this die, but since it's Graham's fault now ;) I'll add some fuel:

So would [insert name here] rather skydive or bowl? :dunno:
Most accidents/injuries/fatalaties in any activity, "high risk" or not, come down to poor judgement/operator error (e.g. 88% of the fatalities in skydiving* last year were judged preventable).
Acknowledging risk and then actively and enthusiastically taking responsibility for one's own skills and safety will enable the average person to kick the average statistic's ass almost every time.
*Skydiving instructors sometimes put a code in the required logbook of a student as a "heads-up" to the next instructor:
OBS [Other Sports Beckon].

You do need frame sliders and good gear for a track day.
+1
I went down in 50% of my track days...
