When do you guys get your bikes back on the road??
Well real quick my names pat and iv been dirtbiking and doing all that offroad stuff for about 8 years now. I just bought my first streetbike on my birthday a couple weeks ago. Its a 1999 kawasaki zx6e, not a bad bike at all. I cant wait to get it ready and get it on the road im so excited. I live outside of boston so if anyone wants to go for a very early spring ride or something let me know. Ill probably be on the rode in a month or two hopefully.
Welcome to our humble abode.
A little free advice for you:
Take 'er slow and easy your first year. Don't worry so much about trying to keep up with anyone ever at any point in riding. Just learn the basics and expand from there. Street riding is nothing like dirt riding other than having 2 wheels and an engine.
In between snow storms.
well, the last time i rode it was 07, so i may take a quick ride in 09. but, i haven't "taken" it off the road yet.

with an old bike like mine ('95 FZR600), insurance is cheap, so it never comes off the road
yah, mines going to stay on the road year round. but i just bought it so everything needs to go into my name. speaking inchurance what do most of you guys have, im thinking just basic, the bikes cheep its probabley not going to get stolen or catch on fire, do u guys have collision for your self or that all depends on how much the bike was worth also right?, cuz they still want 300-500deducatble and like 200 more a year, i figure ill buy some frame sliders for 50bucks and i know how to ride so im not going to drop it unless something really goes wrong.
...when it's warm.

I like to keep two bikes - One that is nice (my Triumph Adventurer), and one that I can take out even when there is sand and salt on the road (my DRZ-S). I never cancel the insurance on either of them, nor do I carry collision or comprehensive. If (when) I crash the DRZ, usually nobody sees it and I don't tell anybody. I am very careful on the Triumph.
I never officially take it "off the road" but I wrap up all the winter work and have it road preped by march 1st and then wait for the first good day to go out. Since I currently have no bodywork or a tank it might be a little later this year.
Welcome to the forum, where outside of Boston are ya?
I usually keep my bike ready to go at a moment's notice year round... though I probably SHOULD drop the insurance to bare minimums & not ride it to save some money (especially in this economy). But riding is my therapy (even if it's only a temporary fix).
As for dropping it... heh, yeah... don't EVER think that it'll never happen![]()
Just ONE wet leaf, one little slope or divit in the ground or that little tiny patch of sand that you didn't see is all that it takes, and it doesn't take much. It's not a dirtbike, once you get to the point of no return that 400 plus pound lump of metal is goin down no matter how hard you try or what profanities you yell![]()
PS, even though you race motocross, look into the MSF course. It still has plenty of things to offer you (including a discount for even CHEAPER insurance) that may save your life one day.

I still ride year around, but no street bike at the moment. Snow bikes is where its at!
As for insurance, don't assume anything. Though I never crashed on the street, Ive had one bike stolen in a spectacular gunpoint jacking and watched one burn to the ground. If not for insurance, Id be a very unhappy bikeless mofo!
Supa Motarded! If you see me backin it in, keep watching...Im about to crash

Beginning of March and I'll be back.
yah, thanks guys. To one of you who wanted to know where i lived i live in Belmont, like 15mins outside Boston. Anyone around here and wanna go for a ride once this shit called snow goes away.![]()
Don't think an older bike won't get stolen. My 80's GPZ was stolen and by the time they found it they towed it to the boston city tow yard. The total tow and storage charges were around $500 and that would've been covered by full insurance...... If I had it.
I keep at least 1 bike insured year round. I have electric gear riged up and as soon as it rains to get some of the salt off the road I will ride on days like today.
