Question which bike final decision . . .

Ok , I am down to either a 00 Sv650 or 98 Zx-9 R . . pretty hard to choose between the two since neighther of them would let me test ride , Ok the Sv650 has about 5600 clocked on and the Zx-9 R has 16500 miles. Both about the same price and both are in pretty good condition from just looking at it .. . Man this is a hard choice . . . Old or New , and naked or faired ? Help me out dudes

    !

They couldn't be more different. What a wierd question. Maybe you have to ask yourself what you want in a bike and clearly one would be better than the other. I don't know you so I have no idea how much experience you have. The SV is a blast no doubt, but otherwise the ZX-9R would probably a wilder ride. Either handles plenty well enough for street riding. For 5500+ dollars maybe you should be looking for a late model GSXR 750 and get the best of both worlds.

That 9r is a powerful bike. Don't get me wrong, I am definitely one to say go for what you like best regardless of size, but temper that throttle. Not that the SV is a slouch but it's harder to correct a fuckup on a big bike. They are both very good rides though.

I would tend to point you towards the SV.
It's a little more forgiving, yet it is one fun bike...You won't become tired of it.
Make the "9" your second or third bike....

This is going to be my second bike , but my first sport bike . . .

I'll talk to my dad about it , because he has the final decision in everything I do which really sucks. I hear the zx-9r is ~140 HP and the SV is ~70 hp , I've rode my dad's magna which is ~90 hp and can handle it pretty well , but again its a completely different type of bike so , I don't know ?

Also not to sound like a total squid , I heard the SV650's have a problem with wheelies and when you wheelie it too long or too much theres something about it getting not enough oil and the engine blows after a while ?

I'm leaning towards the SV right now because theres a lot of people who support the SV on this board , but I don't want to regret my decision later if I get bored of the SV (I get bored of stuff quick)

Edit : also foregot to add , I'm too short for a GSXR750 , found that out last week . . . it's seat height is 32.5 inches or something like that.

SV.. all the way.. 1st of all its a twin. 2nd its a twin, 3rd its a twin..

the 64 rear wheel HP out of the SV will be a night and day difference compared to the ol' savage.

You wont have to worry about spinning the rear wheel as much in an agressive throttle transition and its a heluva lot more forgiving than a ZX-9R.

SV is a much better transitional bike. Not to mention its a twin so it sounds cool.

man the more you guys say how the ZX-9 is too fast for me and stuff ,the more I want it . . . it's like telling a kid not to do something .. it ends up that you make them want to do it . .. .

But anyway about the sv blowing the engine during wheelies , is it true or just a rumor ?

that voice whispering "ZX-9R" in your ear has a funny way of going silent when you are lying on the pavement.

What I think everyone is getting at is that there are just lightyears of difference between an SV and a 9R. Not to mention, like a hundred odd bikes. If the SV isn't exactly what you're looking for, and neither is the 9R, have you considered.... YZF? R6? ZX6E? ZX6R? ZX7R? F4? F4i? TT? ZR7?

The thing thats limiting me from a F4i or R6 or TT is money right now. Limited to under ~$4200 , I have seen F4's for ~4000 but they are in either NJ or NH and I really don't feel like going out of state to buy a bike and then ride it back.

I seriously doubt that you'll be bored with the SV within a year. there is so much that can be done to those bikes. As for being slow, tell that to Chuck Chuinard who was posting 1:12's at NHIS on his.

Did I mention it was a twin....

    re: wheelies & the SV.

yes, there is a problem of oil starvation if you regularly ride wheelies of 1/4 mile or longer...

if it's a *real* big concern for you, and you think you can ride a wheelie that long right away... well... there's a slight engine mod that can help. it's just putting a little plate in.

http://www.svrider.com has all the info you'll ever need on the SV family.

Bang for the buck the SV650 is the way to go. Cost to insure is less, there good on fuel they have serious squirt , it's a sport twin and there a real Hoot and there aren’t many people out there on a liter bike that can loose one in the twists. Want to swoop corners get the S model. Oh and did any one mention it's a V twin?
been ridding 25 years and my last bike was the SV650S.
    My opinion
"wheelies & the SV" If you want to ride wheelies get a dirt bike and stay off the street, too many squids out there already that can weelie but can't ride

if you know how to ride and you have any type of throttle control, go for the 9R. your the only one who really knows whether or not it is the right thing to do or not. even if you choose the sv, if you ride like an ass, you will get hurt......

Go with the SV650. Plenty of power and torque and much cheaper on the pocketbook when it comes to insurance and gas. And it's a twin, with the right pipes it'll turn heads, just ask T.

    yup.

hey, if the guy isn't smart enough to want the SV outright, the v-twin mafia don't want him!

I seriously don't get whats up with the SV - v twin sound thingy , I heard the thing idle and it sounded normal. I personnally prefer the low rumble of a V4 like my dad's magna though , but thats a personally preference. I dunno what an inline four sounds like tho , probably like a acura integra or something ? Currently I have a single cylinder and it sounds like crap
