I should have been more clear, less coy. Quite frankly I don't give a damn what they look like. I'm no fashion maverick as it is.
My thing is that on one hand agressive race look like they are no good for casual riding and commuting.
On the other hand, many of the 'touring' boots look like they don't provide much more protection than a pair of decent work boots.
Exactly.
About a size, size and a half too big, sadly. Those look badass too. Shame.
Does something like that fit under a pair of jeans or textile pants for commuting? I'm guessing no chance in hell.

Yes they do. These are the first boot i bought in a size 13. Fit me perfectly.Originally Posted by nhbubba

Seacoast carries em. Its where i got mine. Talk with patricia and try a couple pair on. If the 13 fits ill sell you mine for much cheaper than new.
Not that im trying to take away from a sale for them. Just offering a good deal.

I'm like a 10.5 - 11 at best. Thanks though.
That's it, I'm headed to seacoast.
Just FYI...I have the Alpinstars SMX Plus, SMX-4, and the SMX-R and they all fit under a pair of jeans.
Out of all of them I prefer the SMX Plus.

Okay. So this is what I'm talking about. Let's focus on just A* for a minute. SMX Plus vs SMX 5. The Plus' are like $100 more.
Do they offer improved protection over the -5's?
Are they going to be annoying overkill for commuting and casual street riding? (Read: Am I gonna leave them in the closet?)
5 minutes ago I was of the opinion that the -5's were good 'nuf.
They would be good enough...but for me comfort is the issue. The 4 isn't as comfortable as the Plus. The plus provides more protection and is more form fitting (has laces, a zipper, and a ratcheting strap). I wear them teaching MSF, so I walk around in them all day for many weekends a year and comfort is a large issue. I have tried to teach in the 4's but had chafing on my leg at the top of the boot. The Plus I can wear ankle socks and never have a problem.

There we go.. Good stuff.
Although my cheap-ass wonders if they didn't improve the design with the -5's. I'll likely find out.
I like the lace up feature of the plus.
Does seacoast carry both of these styles?
Im gonna call them i think. Try to get up there this saturday....

The ONLY way my feet ever got wet was the result of heavy downpours and no rain gear. Water flowed in from the top of the boot down to me socks. It was all over then.
I highly recommend the boot.
Again they are very very noisy but if you are frightened by some squekeing then chnaces are what this boot provides for protection scares you more than you want to admit. Lol
I wore these boots doing some good offroading in the "desert" when we got to CA. They run kinda warm in 110 degree temps in the blazing sun. Then again so does everything else.

Tell me more about these boot covers. I think I'm going to go for the vented, non waterproof variant of whatever boot I buy. Will need to pack covers with my rain gear.
Are these the sort of thing we are talking about? Or something different?
I had the same page open this AM. Thinking upgrade to the raingear too. But that's another thread.
Just got home from Seacoast in Derry. I bought these: TCX S-Race. We had to order for my size, should be in my hands early next week.
Congrats Bubba. I had a set of oxtars they fit my wide feet perfect. You should be very happy.
I went to Seacoast to try on some Sidi's and walked out with the ST's. I can't believe how comfortable they are, and got a good deal on them too. Seacoast rocks.
They really do. Met Patricia. She was way helpful. I now understand why people are so loyal to the place. Polar opposite of any other motorcycle dealer experience I've ever had.
Cool dog too.
My only beef with Seacoast is that I think they carry Tour Master/Cortech, yet didn't have a lot of their gear on display. I didn't think to ask more until I was halfway home. Would kind of like to see the Cortech leathers side by side with some of the Euro branded stuff.
Also they sell A* boots, but did not have any on display. Mostly Sidi and TCX, with a few Dainese as well. I was predisposed to the A* SMX5's when I walked in. A few min with the catalog and some spec comparison and I was convinced I was getting a better value for what I wanted with the TCX's. Obviously YMMV.
Something that surprised me is the boots fit a little BIG. I had the opposite expectation. I normally wear a 10 1/2 - 11 and walked out with 9/43's on order. I expected imported boots to fit tight. And actually the Sidis were too tight, so maybe its just TCX. Really, really glad I bought these locally. Patricia had me test sit them on a bike. I picked a big red Multi. Life is tough all around.
I was disappointed with how comparatively flimsy boots like the Sidi Cobra and Fusion were. Yet boots like the Sidi ST are simply too intense for me to live with.
I tried on a pair of Sidi Adventure Rains too. They are quite nice as well. I seem to be in more of a sport-bike styling mood lately and so the mid-level TCX 'race' boots felt like the right move. I might add a pair of those adventures to the closet at some point as well.
I also got to ogle a couple Panigales. W-O-W!
And they sold an 848 while I was there.
