In Vermont I believe you do.

Pressure switch is cheap and works well.

Yes. However most inspectors at the DMV are about as smart as a box of hair. Tap the front brake when they make you show them the rear brake and you'll be fine.

I don't run a rear switch on the street.

the DMV doesn't do inspections. and I think anyone who isn't a complete moron would know that you just grabbed the front when they asked for just the rear.

You don't *need* 2 switches per se, but both brake levers are required to activate the brake light.

They actually checked mine too. I ordered a pressure switch from kneedraggers.com and I got it in 2 days for $25.. worked like a charm.

In ma, you are only required to have one or the other activate the brake light. If you would like I'll get you chapter and verse. It's a misconception you need two.

I didn't know MA doesn't do them. I have CT registration and have had to go for a safety inspection when registering out of state bikes.

Most people at the DMV are complete morons.

So if factory equipped with two and only one works at the moment it is legal? It would be nice if you could get that info for me.

when I got my last sticker in 08 I had to go home and install a pressure switch cause she wouldn't give me a sticker without both working. She said the DOT was cracking down on stickers and sometimes inspectors would randomly drive by and watch.

the DMV doesn't do them. dealers/shops do the inspections. just like taking your car to a service station to get an inspection sticker.

Interesting. Both of the places I use for inspections in MA routinely check both front and rear brake light activation...
I have purchased a hydraulic switch (front) to add to my titled KDX, but I have not done so yet.
If you could provide a link to the chapter/verse, or a complete list of requirements, I would appreciate it.

Correct. And if you live in CT there is no inspection whatsoever

    Its a gixxah thing

they always check both on alicias bike too,

I assume when you show up with a suzuki they are doing everything possible to keep them from passing...

you can do a couple things to prevent that

    1) Grow some really nice boobs
    2) buy a better bike
    3) quit riding and just drive ya lemon
    4) run from the cops.

Document 540CMR Section 4.06 Inspection of Motorcycles #11 Lighting and reflectors. The line reads. ' Stop Lamps should be activated by the front or rear brakes '

I guess it really would be up to interpertation BUT the word OR to me means front OR rear not BOTH
