should i buy an old cbr f2 as a track bike?

looking at a 1993 honda cbr 600 f2, all set up for the track and comes with spare motor, wheels, ect. should i pull the trigger? its reeeeaaalllly cheap at 1500 bucks and i think it could be a fun start for me at the track. it would get me out on the track and not so nervous about messing up my ducati. any thoughts on how these bikes are as far as reliability, handling, and overall trackability?

Do it. That will make a great first track bike. I have ridden an f2 set up for track and it was a hoot.

My first bike was an F2 back in the day. to this day I consider that to be the best mannered bike I ever rode. Enough power to make it fun but not get you into major trouble, and handled pretty well right out of the box. For that price I'd get on it!

advantages of a hawk over an f2? the hawk is a vtwin, which i like since im a duc nut. but this f2 is soo cheap and comes with lots of extras. made an appt to meet the guy, hope its as sorted as it looks to be.

I almost bought a SICK F2 recently, and passed since my use would be racing and I don't think that much older of a bike could be competitive. For a TD bike, DO IT!!!! For racing, I was held off by "will it hold up with the newer bikes, even with a built engine?" Your call, and I'm just a stupid novice, but that's my .005

You can mod the heck out of a Hawk, The Hawk is better handling than an F2, better following, (cult status) More like a Duc because of the Vtwin.

Come on over and check mine out.

Although an F2 all track set up for $1500 is a good deal

I thought you were going to be all over that bike?! I told you it'd be more than capable of getting you into the expert ranks?! : )

I wanted to, but the more people I talked to the less I felt it was a wise purchase for a race bike. I've got mine and a hawk for part of the season to play with, gonna hold off and see what comes up for newer MW's later in the season.

man, now i have a hard decision to make. im trying to keep my little venture here as cheap as possible, but now comes along this f4. should i try hard to scrounge up some extra cash is the question. i think i'd still have a lot of fun with the f2

TD only? F2. Or nighthawk, whatever is laying around. Ever plan to race? Want to be fast at TD's, and maybe race someday? Man, for an extra $500ish (guessing, new seller has not listed price) I'd go to an F4 from an F2 all day. But... I'm a novice. Wait for people that know.

Re: should i buy an old cbr f2 as a track bike?

im novice to the track as well...but i would like to eventually race if i progress enough, maybe next year. is the f4 really gonna be night and day to the f2? i know its a much newer bike, with a little more grunt, prob lighter due to the aluminum frame...better suspension maybe

Re: should i buy an old cbr f2 as a track bike?

You won't race the F2 or the F4 and be competative in MWSB

You can race a Hawk and be competative in ULSB (as long as they keep the SV's out)

Then again I bet you can find a Track SV for around 2k...

Re: should i buy an old cbr f2 as a track bike?

You could be competative in ULSB with a couple trackdays and the race school.

If you want a bike to stay with get an SV.

As much as I love the Hawk it's days are numbered, I fear in a couple years they are going to let SV in ULSB at NHMS (They are already in ULSB everywhere else)

SV's and ULSBikes in general are cheaper to run, and maintain. A 600 MWSB is a money pit. (Not to mention the "meat grinder" class)
