I got to help out a new rider get her first bike today, an 03 ninja 500r (talked her out of the 250s, and shes already comfortable with the 500 in town and on the freeway) Shes loves the bike but she was wonderin about possibly raising the handlebars, im seeing risers for the 94+ 500ex on ebay and gen-mars site, is the 500r the same as a 500ex? anyone?
The EX500 is the same across the board... no differences in the 500, 500r, ex500... just different names for the saaaame bike.
Does it NOT have stock handlebars?![]()

Nope, the 500ex is a quad.
I don't believe they make risers for the EX500, it's not a standard clipon rather it bolts to the top triple clamp. The aftermarket ones all decrease the rise. There's a lot of bar rise in the stock EX already, are you sure she's got the stock clipons? If so the rise above the triples should be about 4 inches.
The ones on Gen-mar's site for the 94+ EX500 will work, if that's the ones you were looking at.

GenMar motorcycle handlebar risers: Kawasaki Vulcan p#k112
man, in stock form that engine is so mellow, hell the whole bike is so tame, if that would been my 1st bike i would kept it longer
yep those were the ones,
thanks man, im sure she thanks you too.
also, tell her about ex-500.com
a 94+ clip on will work on a 93-bike. but not vise versa

good to know, I think she wont be getting clip ons anytime soon though, shes got a background in horse riding and likes to have good posture, whatever the hell that is.
so whats the first things you guys replaced or modded on your 500's?
went from 16" wheels to 17" wheels. which involved replacing the whole rear end (swingarm, brake system, dogbones, cush drive)

i have a question about the dog bones, i just recently fucked one up in a crash and had to change them with the bigger size arms. the originals were taken so does any one know the size of the smaller bones and were i can find a set for the last race weekend. the bike just doesnt handle the same with the larger ones.
