Looking for any thoughts or opinions. Never ridden one, never even seen one in person. Have really liked the look of them since they first came out and I've heard they fixed the glitches like the fuel injection issues and gear box issues.
My '11 848 EVO just doesn't have the juice I'd like it to so I'm thinking about selling it and opting for the RC8R or an 1198, or 1199 when it comes out. I like the idea if having something somewhat rare so I'm thinking the KTM.
Any thoughts are appreciated.
It's hard for me to conceptualize an 848 not having enough juice.
The rc8 is a radical machine, by all accounts. My only hangup is the tail (too dang pointy) and the fact that it's way overkill for anything I'd do with it.
I think you should buy it, so I can ride it around and know that for a fact.

I'm just use to my '05 gixxer 1k where it's all there at any rpm. I know it's like comparing apples to oranges. I also know I don't neeeed all that power but it's nice to have.
Not sure. Just started researching them briefly and hadn't come across that yet.
Your gixxer was and is a legend, so even a 2009 Gixxer is hard to compare. I rode the RC8R at Americade this year and have nothing but good things to say about it. I have to say I never rode an 848, so can't compare. But, the ergonomics were better than I expected and no fuel injection issues.

Thanks for the input. Yeah nothing else I've ever ridden compares to my gixxer. It's gonna be a hard act to follow.
As for the KTM, I have read that it is surprisingly pretty comfy. Also finding out that the 2011 is definitely the one to get as there was still a few issues with the 2010. I guess they downgraded the wheels and skimped on some sort of coating on the front forks for the 2011 but all in all I've been steered to the 2011 for some decent motor changes. Read on the KTMforum that some guys that own the 2011 are having oil leak from the lower left side and onto the exhaust, coming from the stator.?. and KTM has no big solution yet so people are removing the cover, applying a strong gasket sealer to the metal gasket and it's working so far.
How's this WP suspension compare to others out there?
Hmmm good to know.
I have to say that maybe it was the roads around Lake George, but I didn't think the 2011 RC8R was harsh at all. I think WP has a very good reputation for quality - maybe not that Swedish company, but close...
As long as they're not known as crap they'll be good enough for me. I'll have to dial the suspension in anyhow since I'm lighter than what every manufacturer sets them up to stock.

Coming from an 848evo, I suspect you may even find the suspension plush! My Monster was way too stiff for my 150lb body...the forks are still too firm.
Yeah the EVO is stiff as a board for me. I just never got around to adjusting things. I really wish someone around here had a demo to take out.
