Because believe it or not, not all crashes are the result of people riding like tools on residential roads where they put people's kids, pets and property at risk. Occasionally there is something to be learned from a crash thread other than some people simply can't accept that a residential street, whether heavily populated or not, is not the place to do 80.Quote:

Has nothing to do with the track. I spend 99.99999999999999% of my time riding on the street. Has everything to do with speeding on a residential road that you're unfamiliar with. What you did was foolish. I've absolutely done 80, 90, 115 on back roads, but I do it on the roads I know aren't populated, that I've traveled 100 times and in the middle of the day when I know no one will be around.

I read the entire thread and while a lot of it is the normal stuff expected in these threads, I think there's obvious stuff missing.
MSF BRC + MSR ERC both teach braking, turning and looking out for the unexpected. The ARC would also help.
Assume the worst is going to happen around every corner and prepare for it with parking lot practice for emergency braking and tight figure eights. You can always add throttle when the blind corner turns out better than expected.
I'm not trying to preach, but I do want to say that there's a lot that a rider can do to improve without " taking it to the track."
Riding consciously and aggressively is like any other sport, playing well requires practicing specific skills so that they are second nature when needed.
To the OP, don't sweat the flaming, but please take away from your first crash the need to work on very specific skills that will enable you to avoid another crash when a combination of unexpected conditions and excessively exuberant throttle application create the next "oh shit" moment. We all have them.
If you're not careful with the first few, you may have no choice about that last one.Quote:

Road looks pretty tight to me for 80mph, but most of the time I'm riding my 700+ lb. cruiser... imagine approaching this section at 80...

I can't imagine being any faster than 50-55 at that point. And the limit is probably what, 35? But maybe I'm just a pussy. I am also incredibly paranoid about LEO attention.

I have zero dirt bike experience and have taken a few detours onto the grass at nhms and just knew not to brake thankfully I managed to keep the rubber side down. I think after you hit the grass at the track you realize it is a viable option if you are taking a corner too hot.Quote:

Good post I really like crash posts because it helps me learn what not to do. The people who say learn to ride probably are just blowing smoke and don't know how to ride nearly as good as they think they do. Just because you've never crashed doesn't mean it won't happen in the future. What I get out of this post is: don't speed excessively on unfarmiliar roads, Always wear gear its important and saves your skin, and keep your cool and be ready for anything. I don't get learn to ride and get 1000hours of track time so yiu can go 165 on that road.
Theres two kinds of riders those that have gone down and those that will go down.
Sorry to here it man. it happens to the best of us. I use to crash every new bike...straight 4 of them. not anymore. guess i got new luck :)
