I have a dust collector 2003 CRF150 that sits in my barn not being used. I bought it a while ago and it served its purpose as a play bike while my daughter learned to ride in the woods on her bike. She has since moved on to street riding and we never use the CRF. The bike fires right up and runs great but the wheels could use new rims as the stock steel rims didn't like my 200lbs of rock crushing style. SOooo...
I'm thinking about replacing the rims. Instead of stock, I'm thinking of making this bike into a mini motard and replacing the stock rims with some 17" rims and tires. I think it would be fun as a parking lot play bike. Of course that means I have to poach places to ride just like I had to do with its dirt tires.
Is this going to turn into another motorcycle mania experience that sucks all the money out of my wallet that ends with an old bike that cost more than a new Aprilia SVX and one that I can't legally ride anywhere? Should I just sell the CRF and use the cash for track days?
I'm wondering what the best method of doing this wheel rebuild. Anyone have any experience with this task?
