What makes a person a danger to trackriders? Braking, wrong lines or just going too dam fast on corner entry.

Erratic lines, erratic movements in general. I'd say the rest could be worked around. Well, unless of course for some reason they throw on the brakes at the start finish line for absolutely no reason, or crash themself into you.
I know a little about everything, and alot about nothing.
^^^ Hopefully in general![]()

Being off line. It leads to intersections.
Braking too much or early or unexpectedly (like under red flag conditions). This can be dangerous to riders behind that aren't following the golden rule - never ride directly behind another rider.
Which leads me to - Riding directly behind another rider
Passing on the inside. What happens if they tighten their line or you tuck the front?
Poor planning... both mechanically, mentally and technically out on the track. Parts have been known to fly off bikes, people have been known to ride in the wrong frame of mind & people have been known to plan their passes poorly or not plan them at all.
Going off line to make a safe pass but SWERVING back onto the line.
Going off line to LET people make a safe pass (like on the straights) then SWERVING back onto the line.
Hamfisting in the straights & parking in the corners. It can and WILL eventually lead to frustrated riders behind you that would like to pass but can't because of a power differential which can lead to riding like this list
Similarly, re-passing those that pass you in the corners w/ your extra power on the straights.
All of this can basically be summed up in one phrase - Not riding predictably - Everything should be smooth and gradual, from your throttle & brake to your line selection to the rate at which you pick up your pace.
This could be a long thread. Good question!![]()

I thought passing on the inside was preferred... oh wait we are talking trackdays...
Disregard.

Very well put oreo, when your riding on the track and staying on the lines it seems like no matter what I feel Im holding someone up. When the person behind finally makes the pass and cuts it close you wonder if he or she was pissed at ya cause you were holding them up for whatever reason. Tony made a great suggestion, take a look back at the frt straight to see if anyone was on your ass and let them pass. In a few other td that I've been to I was told never to look back and just concentrate on whats in frt of you.

Great list Pete, to add a few....
Not executing proper 'Pit Out' or 'Pit In' procedures causing entry or exit from the track at reduced pace and creating converging paths.
Not paying attention to the cornerworkers and reacting properly with signal first and slowly roll off throttle second.
Improper bike maintenance that results in track condition hazards. (Blowing your oil filter down the straight comes to mind).
I agree with oreo and jaynnuts.

Good stuff...
I can't think of anything else.

Two others I thought of....
Not putting your hand up when you experience a mechanical failure.
Staying on the racing line when you experience a mechanical failure.

In races:
Riders who miss the apex or somthing and go way off line. Then cross the entire track to get back on the line like the bike will explode if they are off line for more then a second. riders who dont carry enough speed into T2 to drift out towards the wall. and end pointing and driving there bike to the wall.
There is more then one way to skin a cat. learn a few diffrent ways in diffrent corners. because sometimes your in the wrong spot. and if that happens someone behind has taken the right spot from behind. learn to take T3 from the center of the track, or take a tight line from 6 to 7. so you dont hit sombody trying to reclaim the line. look forward and get it on the next one
Sometime you cant have the space back

I'll tell you one this I think is dangerous.
Though maybe others may not think so.
I find it dangerous when there are multiple passes
in a single section of track. For instance when you
pass someone down the straight and get lined up for the turn
and they try to pass back. For a race I can see that this
how you fight but for a track day (my opinion) I think that once the
pass is done the other rider should yield till the next section of track
like next straight or next braking area or turn to pass back.
I have gotten caught in some hairy situations that for a track day
should not be happening.
what do you all think?

Well... If you can't make the pass and really distance the guy then why try the pass? You know what I'm saying?
I have had some people pass me at the end of the straight but then brake harder than me going into one. I close up really fast and have had to check up more than a few times (thinking they were gonna carry more speed).
At a trackday passing in the corners is kinda frowned upon but if you can get to the Apex first...
On the other hand, If I made a pass and some dude is trying to take it right back (at a trackday) I am thinking what did I (the passer) do wrong to LET him stay so close...

this is why its nice when you know the guys you're riding around.... like in my race on sunday, giacamaro (runs 13's) got screwed in T1 on the start, i let him by going into T2....I could have passed him going into T3 on the brakes, but why!? Hes a much faster rider and would have gotten me back for sure at some point so I declined the chance. Its just added danger for no reason.
there's danger doing track day?i'll have to check it out.
if not im just gonna go drag some more foot peg on the on/off ramp.![]()
"fuckit!"
thats always been my thinking, if you want to pass someone...its your responsibility to get around them safely no matter what they're doing. some people just make it easier/safer than others.
if the rider being passed or thats in front had responsibility over the pass, we'd have rear view mirrors haha
I know what Dans saying, just talk to some of us novices, you KNOW who you need to let have a TON of room when you pass because you know they're gonna go wide or not hold a line. Its dangerous, especially if you dont know who the other riders are. But yes its the passers responsibility. It is dangerous, but those of us novices who can at least run somewhat near the front tend to know whos real slow and unpredictable, and mention it to the other guys so they know what to look for on passing.
