    Lowsided again

So I'm coming around a tight righthander. I have the bike leaned @ 25mph and then I hit a miniature grand canyon of broken tar in the middle of the turn. I hear a hard part contact the pavement as I go over this and then BAM...I'm sliding across the road and into the woods on the side of the road. I wasn't even going that fast but awell.

    The damage:

right side fairings ruined, slider ruined, tank dented/scraped/crunched, frame scuffed/scratched, tail scratched, clip on bent, bar end f'd, break lever mangled, exhaust scratched/f'd, front and rear signals busted, slider done.

    So whattya think...this baby totalled?

Yeah I know but honestly I don't have the money to fix it. I also have a loan on it and can't afford to fix it and pay a loan and insurance. Unfortunately I will have to suspend my motorcycle riding for a while.

    Re: Lowsided again

fuck going through insurance, I will never do that again unless the bike is totaled completely....

save up over the winter and buy little things one thing at a time and replace the broken stuff, and before you know it spring is here and your bike is A O K

clip on bent, bar end f'd, break lever mangled, front and rear signals busted,
Unless I'm missing something, these are the only things that can't be repaired with zip ties and duct tape (gorilla brand ftw)! Little begging here and cruising ebay should get you running for short money...

That is assuming you're being realistic about the frame being 'scratched and scuffed'...

Can you use the argument of the road having debris in it?
Isn't there some sort of thing about not being at fault due to road condition?

That sucks man but at least you are okay. Screw going through insurance, eBay is your friend. I am willing to bet that with a little imagination and craftiness, you should be ridable for about $500 (exhaust, lever and clip-ons). Just fix the other stuff as you go. Think of them as speed holes.

    Re: Lowsided again

I totalled my first bike years back and was able to prove that I was not at fault because my tire (rear)blew out on a steel piece in the road casing me to lose control. I had no pictures; nothing but my work and I won. In my case I had no chiace as the bike was completely mangled. It's a gamble you could lose but I would think with pictures and what not you have a good chance of being sucessful.

You pay for insurance, use it. And get the bike back through the buyback.

    Lowsided again
Given the title of this thread, one might ask, did you file a claim the last time you lowsided?!?! Was there any 'fault' determined? How long ago was it?

These questions might play in to whether filing a claim is a good idea.

    My 4 cents....!!!

    Re: Lowsided again

No I didn't file a claim last time. The first time I fixed the bike myself.

I went back to the road to see if I could figure out exactly what happened. It looks like while I was leaned over I hit a broken stretch of tar that goes down the center of the lane. It runs with the road for a couple feet. As soon as you look at that piece of road you can see where my peg contacted the ground. I wasn't even leaning that hard so it looks like I hit the busted section and lost traction and went into the lowside. Maybe I can use that to defer fault.

I get what you're saying but I won't have insurance for a while (think years) as I won't be getting a new bike.

Are you saying you would ride without insurance? Or do you just mean 'collision'?

    Your last post confuses me....!!!???

    Re: Lowsided again

If the frame is only scuffed/scratched and not worn low that can be carefully sanded, IE hand sanded, out. If it is a painted frame it is even easier to make look like nothing happened. But silly as it sounds check for cracks along all the weld points just to be sure. If any paint is cracked off you may have bent it though I highly doubt it at that speed. Gas tanks are a breeze to replace and can typically be found fairly cheaply. Fairings can be a bitch. All the rest of that is fairly cheap.

I have done a lot of repairing and rebuilding, motorcycles (for others, thank God not for my own other then minor stuff) and cars and I def have to second these guys opinion that you are better repairing it yourself assuming frame is fine (and it should be). You will spend less if you take your time this winter and snag some good prices on ebay then if you pay the bump up in your insurance.

Good luck and glad you are okay.

Sorry if I was unclear. I won't be riding for a few years. If it gets totaled then motorcycles and myself will be on hold for a while. With no bike...no insurance.

yea but remember if it does get totaled and even if u don't ride anymore it will still affect your points and if you drive a car then ur still paying for it.
