yup.... dumped it...
Short version - gettin off highway, hit somethin, went straight off the road & dropped it at low speed in some deep sand & soil. i'm ok, bikes pretty skuffed up but pretty much all cosmetic.
Long version - So i get off work & headed to my buddy's b-day bash at Mac's Two (strip joint). Gettin off rte 3 goin around a cloverleaf at *a very reasonable speed, probably 40-45* i saw some roadkill, began to stand the bike up to go to the ouside of it, hit it, stood the bike all the way up & hit the brakes hard. road kept on turnin away from me so i went over a curb & into some DEEP FUCKIN sand & soil. kept it upright for about 20-30 feet, then went down on my right side at about 20-30mph. I landed, slid a little, then whacked my head on a rock or chunk of asphalt or somethin & came to a stop. It all happened in the span of about 2 seconds. Not very much time to think. I got up & looked at my bike as the engine sputtered & went out as i screamed obsenities.
A dude on a harley was the first to see me & came to a stop. He made sure i was ok, helped me stand it up & get it back onto the pavment. his name was Ken... or Kenny, or Kevin... somethin w/ a 'K'..... thanks dude, whoever you are.
The bike took quite a few cranks to start back up, but it's runnin fine now.
I'm not gonna get into a discussion about whether or not i coulda saved it, cuz the answer is: i probably coulda if it was during the day & knew what was gonna happen before it did.... i coulda tried to avoid it to the inside ori coulda gone over it & re-committed HARD to the turn & continued on my merry way.
but coulda woulda shoulda, i didn't save it, end of discussion.
Personal Damage Report - just a rung bell & three TINY little cuts on my hip from the sand... my gear did it's job VERY well. I'm sure i'll see a little bruising on my hip tomorrow & might be a little sore, but i really didn't go down hard & bounced back up pretty good... after my vision cleared up (peripheral vision in my left eye was a little blurry for 1/2 an hour or so) i just have a nice headach & a sore hip.
Bike Damage Report - pretty much all cosmetic. only a small scuff on the frame from the plastic, couple small scuffs on the clutch cover. gonna need a whole nose section, mirror (just scratched on the front side), windshield support bracket (bent up pretty good), right fairing, fairing bracket, right front blinker, rear passenger handle & exhaust can (i still have the stock that i'll mount). The rear brake lever, handlebar & front brake lever all managed to survive w/ only scratches
My bike may not be as pretty as it was when i got it, but i'm still as gorgeous as i was before. My name's Pete & I've gone down on a bike.

sorry to hear that, bro... glad you & bike are mostly alright. sounds like you've eval'ed the situation, so you've learned from it... and that's always a good thing.
besides... a bit of scuffed plastic gives a bike character, don'tcha know?![]()

+1 on seeing a doc for the bump you took to the head
Sorry to hear about![]()
Im glad you aren't in a hospital or worse![]()
no need. that's a tough situation. night time, dark little time to react. I think you did what you could. not like you were riding super fast for the turn or anything. you,. my friend, are a victim of circumstance. change any of the elements and you probably would have been just fine - straight road = fine, no turn = fine, better runout = fine.....Originally posted by OreoGaborio

just glad you are ok - bike can be fixed.

Thanks for the kind words everyone. As far as timing, it definitely came at a the wrong time. Just dealin w/ a break-up of a long time GF, the parents are away for the week & i have NO medical/health insurance..... that's right.... NONE. Hense the reason i didn't go to the ER to get my head examined. My vision was a little blurred in my left eye like i said & my head was hurtin a little, but my vision cleared up & my head feels better now.
Nikon, i'm glad you feel i was a victim of circumstance... cuz as much as i wanna believe that's true i just can't stop thinking about the "shouldawouldacoulda's"
i wanna go back & kick that fuckin roadkill in the teeth & stomp on it's ballsack.... or ovaries, whichever it happens to have

No biggie, it could have been a lot worse. The good thing is that it's not going to stop you from riding anymore. Sometimes a dump of any size will have that effect on people. But, now you can just consider yourself a little more experienced.
oh dude, no way in hell this is gonna stop me from riding, fuck that... i'm definitely more pissed off & bummed out than scared
hell, i'm debating on whether or not to ride it to work today the way it is

Glad to hear you're doing alright Pete - good luck with getting everything all patched up.
Hey....
Look on the bright side. If you rung your bell enough to have blurred vision, you'd probably be in a coma or dead right now if you'd been helmetless or wearing an illegal brain bucket.
Nighttime is always tough... you never know what is going to happen. There are a LOT of roads with an unusual amount of sand right now due to the big rain storm last weekend.
Last spring I ran over a piece of a trash can on the highway in my car. Apparently a trash can had fallen off the back of a rig and broken into big pieces. It was black, I was on the highway, ran it over without any real chance of avoiding it. Would have been BAD on the bike. It lodged under the car and made a mess and I had to pull over pretty quickly.
I just ran over roadkill on my bicycle the other day. It sucked but it didn't make me crash. Probably would have been fine to hit it on the motorcycle.

Dam that sucks man. I allways hate to hear about shit like that. Your right though, coulda/woulda/shoulda....
Make sure you get a new lid, and watch out for any 'funny' headaches... You could have some slow internal bleeding. You didn't get lose conciousness right?
I'm looking at the bill from Brigham&Womens hospital now from when I got jumped and got a concussion. The catscan alone was $1078. You'll prolly be at the $1500 mark if you go in without insurance. There are payment plans though.

yeah my bell didn't get rung hard enough to get knocked out... it was just like a good punch in the back of the head. still hurts a little bit though. i have a back-up helmet i'll be usin for now. my hip's hurtin a little more, but not bad... just a little sore. no limpin
i was just out in the driveway & the damage to the bike isn't as bad as it coulda been... i just gave it a wash down to get all the dirt & dust off and asside from a few metal brackets it's just alot of plastic as far as i can tell... pretty much exactly what i listed above (nose section, mirror, windshield support bracket, right fairing, couple of fairing brackets, right front blinker, rear passenger handle & exhaust can) at least i have an extra right side fairing, stock blinker & stock exhaust in the garage that's still scratched up, but is in much better shape... no cracks or missin pieces.
i'm just still rediculously fuckin bummed out... this was DEFINITELY not a good time for this to happen... i'm dealin w/ WAY too much personal bullshit right now. just put this at the wrong time.
*sigh*... what doesn't kill me makes me stronger, right?
I need a pitty fuck.
