SuperBikePlanet has posted a great YouTube vid of Kiyonari qualifying in WSBK in the wet at Donington with the comment:
"the most amazing wet weather riding we've seen since Scott Russell won Loudon in 1993."
I don't speak Italian either, but the commentary is still hilarious.

wow......that looks absolutely terrifying. He sure had to man handle that thing.
Yeah he was incredible in Race 2.
That guy deserves a Moto GP ride. Took him awhile to get
acquainted to the Ten Kate bike but now he's rock solid!

WOW!
Amazing front wheel/brakes control. The rear end is largely being taken care of by electronics. While it is genius wet weather riding, he could never do it on a 916 from 1996.
Unbelievable bike control. I don't think that bike had any traction at any point during that video. Talk about running the ragged edge.

That rear end had more wiggle than a two dollar hooka on a Sat night...impressive.

Largely taken care of, not totally taken care of. The traction control senses rear wheel spin and SLOWLY steps back the power (using ignition timing I think) so the rear comes back in line without highsiding. I feel traction control is taking care of some of the business.
Yes, totally agreed that he is still using amazing talent and ability. I just think that some of the riders from the 90's didn't look as good in the rain because they didn't have the traction control.
BTW, I'm probably the only person on NESR who HAS ridden Donington in the rain and I can tell you, it's a new kind of slippery. The track is covered in avgas from planes dumping fuel on landing at the local airport. Rain mixed in makes it hard to just run on, let alone ride on.
Kudos to Kiyonari, I watched him at Brands a couple of months back and he was awesome to watch. He's been a favorite of the brits for a couple of years now.
Wow, that is totally amazing...
Degsy...we're agreeing, we're just using different words.

nothing cooler than a bike backing it into a corner on sliding it out of one. awesome.

Bump.... I'm pretty sure that wasn't Kiyonari.... it was Degsy at his first ever track day.
Donington in the rain, right Degs?
