Degsy really couldn't have said it bette, his posts in this thread are definitely worth re-reading and sharing with your girl. If she won't take his advice then the only person she can blame is herself.
:plusone:
Did she stop before the cue cones? Did she get a 2nd attempt at the stopping drill?
Sorry that was already asked... Did they go over her points with her after the test? Or did she quit after the braking drill. (She should have contiued the evaluation)
If she was having trouble in the class I would hope the instructors would have seen that and pulled her aside to help her with a little one on one. People having difficulties do stand out. We even give extra time during lunch etc.
Sometimes it is difficult to get to everyone and some might slip through the cracks. I teach to military folks and I know ALOT of my students personally. It sucks to fail em but I do. I don't play favorites. I have students dislike the bikes they are assigned. I ask them to try it for a bit and see if it will work. I have yet to have to have a student switch a bike. (not that I have been teaching all that long) My point is that the basics work for every bike. This is the BASIC course. There is like a 90 something % pass rate. If a student fails there is a good reason.

sounds like she anticipated on the first and second attempt I guess. That's a 10-point fail on eval 3 and move on to cornering. I think she might have accrued enough points on the u-turn box and swerve where the braking eval put her over the 20 so they stopped the test.

Re: G/F failed MSF course! WTF?
Or could they have considered that and intentional unsafe act?

No. They should have continued the evaluation until the end I would think.

Her hand and arm were killing her cause the clutch line was soo stiff!
She did everything right, except for when they tested her on stopping, she stopped like 2 ft. before the cones. And that is what failed her! WTF?
I mean come on! FWD controls, and she is 5 ft 2? WTF is that? She hadda sit on the tank to reach them!
They never went over hand signals, (ya in the book, but that's it) never showed or practiced doing right and left circles!
So now she has to go take it thru the registry where you do have to show hand signals, and you do have to do circles both ways!
And I get stuck teaching her.
BTW, she has a real bike. A 06 gixx 600 that is being lowered for her. Not some piece of shit bike...
OK, I'm done! Now discuss
Not to mention they give you two trys for the stopping part of the test as well. I took it there and they let you do two trys for that. She probably messed up on the double u turns in the rectangle box, almost everyone lost points for that in my class last year

I don't think someone of 5'2" is going to fit on a nighthawk and be able to do the double u-turns. The suzuki gs125 is always an option in some schools too. Small but not with forward controls.
derek
I am 5'2 and I rode the Night Hawk with no problems at all and was able to do the double turn as well.

You're the exception to the rule. Well done. Not many people that short can get along with the nighthawk.

It took me a at least 4 times around on the practice round for the double turn to get it right but I eventually did. Definitely the toughest part of the course IMO

I had a student at 30 before Ex4 yesterday and didn't stop her. Let them finish the exam.
If they max her stopping, it does sound like she anticipated the stop twice.
As for the bike, she should have complained. I had a student complain about her Nighthawk this weekend, so I hustled and changed the brake cable for her. Happy students are happy customers.

Re: G/F failed MSF course! WTF?
I just got off the fone with degs... (thanks bro) and we are working something out to get Marlene where she needs to be. As I said, I am NOT looking for a free ride for her. I want her to be safe and have the best teaching she can get. We will get there..

Re: G/F failed MSF course! WTF?
I want the best for her and her to be safe on the streets. She will go and learn with degs or pete. I'm pretty sure she will be in the best hands. Again, I'm not looking for excuses for her. Who knows what really happened, I wasn't there...

Good job taking the contructive criticism and coming back with a positive attitude and trying to find a solution. Can't give rep on this site but definitely a :plusone: for you!

No way man.. I have rode with Degs and Pete on the track! I know for sure they can help her much more than I can. gurls dont like to be critiqued (sp?) by their other half.
I only wish i knew that these 2 guys did this to start! Shame on me for not posting up about it. Not that I think she woulda passed with flying kolors, but for sure, I think she would have got a lot more out of it!
And that is what matters most to me...
And Degs, thanks for your time bro,,,

I am surprised you didn't have a heart attack on the spot when you told me and my wife we passed. :twofinger
As for the topic at hand here. Just practice. My wife and I make it a point to practice in a parking lot every season just to brush up on what we learned during the erc. Just knowing the course helps a lot and you can take it from there and you have all the time you need to get the exercises down.

I'm kind of a big deal...received a perfect score on both tests. Let the showering of gifts begin.

See if you can get a range aide position at some site this year for a class or 2. They consider that a plus when you apply.
