WTF, what happened after that?
Anyways, to the OP, you claim you only want your girl to be as safe as possible and learn the best before she's on the street. Then why is she on a GSXR 600 for her first bike? Besides being faster than most supercars it's a lot heavier than a 250 or 500 that would allow her to learn how to push it in the corners properly, more easily, and be more forgivable. Very poor choice on a first bike. Go get a used Ninja 250 or GS 500 if you want her to learn fast.
Because this is the bike she wanted. I have no control over that. If they made a gixxer 400, that is what she prolly would have got. I've heard this argument a million times. IMO it is all about throttle control. You can get seriously hurt on a moped! And I dont recall saying I want her to learn fast, I want her to learn right....

If a person has the ability, they can learn on any bike, plus it kinda depends on the type of person you are... I rode dirt bikes before getting a street bike, and my Gixxer 600 was my first street bike.
Some people just are more comfortable from the start (i never had any problems with throttle control or the clutch ability even when it was just a dirt bike).
Sure, I've made mistakes, but I learned from them, and most of them came when I was just in a parking lot, so in that instance it really didn't matter if I would have been on a 250, a 500, a 600, or my husband's R1. I hate when people say a person "can't learn" on a bigger bike simply because it's got a bigger engine (yes you have a higher range of possibilities for getting hurt, but honestly, if you're going to get hurt, it can happen on any bike even if you're only doing 2 mph).
just my .02, brendanp, let me know if she ever wants a female to go riding in a parking lot with her (sometimes its easier to learn from a female than a male, because you don't feel like you need to be a specific way around another girl - as opposed to another guy-) Now, I'm not going to profess to being a great rider, but I can show her a few pitfalls that new riders tend to fall into that I can explain why to avoid it....

Thanks Gixxerchick. It doesnt matter cause if she got a 1000, everyone would be saying she shuolda got a 600!! This is why she's on a 600
I have no doubt she will do fine in the right hands.

yeah, don't even worry what everyone else says, I caught a lot of flack from a lot of people for having a brand new 600 for my first bike...
I dropped it several times, but once I got used to the weight and the feel of the bike, there were no problems... Be sure the first thing you put on there is frame slider
Also, be careful with the lowering stuff though, I had mine lowered, but it was like turning a dump truck, so after I got used to it, I raised it back to stock height and couldn't be happier, course I'm a little taller at 5'5, but get some boots with a higher rubber heel and that fixes any height issues...

Same here...joined the 'perfect score club' when I took the BRC with PV Riders out in Westfield. I even got t-shirt for being the first one to get a perfect score on the written exam. Great class, awesome instructors (Chris and Sully), I highly recommend it for anyone that lives out that way.

Hi Brendan I was one of the instructors who worked with Marlene over the weekend. I would be happy to discuss her riding performance with you. PM me and I will give you my cell.

I talked to Kip tonight and there were a few other issues going on with her performance. I still think the bike was not the right bike for her, meaning it may not have been the right bike for her. but I'm not looking to make excuses for her. I want her to pass cause she could do what was expected!
On the flip side, me being very honest with her, I told her I talked to Kip (one of her instructors) and she got fucken pissed at me! WTF. So now she is being a bitch to me! The guy who not only bought her a next to new bike, but wants the best for her... So whatever at this point. Her pride is in her way, she needs to get over it Period!

She prolly turned gay and hasn't told you yet.
Bren, I'm sure you know by now most women are fickle. Don't try to make her see the light, she will only close her eyes even tighter.
Yes, I know, and now she is talking about ditching the whole thingy! but WTF? Why she gutta be soo fucken sensitive about it? Just because I posted this thread, she acts like I told the fucking world!!!
I come here for answers and help cause you really dont get any better with the experience from the pro's here!
It really bumms me out that she cant just see that I'm trying my best to get her the best help out there. And that is no offence to the cycles 128 program..
If all else fails, Lean more....
Actually, no one here knows how to ride. We just talk a good game and make it look easy.
Your girly needs to relax, B. Many, if not all, of us here strive to put informed as well as safe riders on the track and on the street.....why else do you think the collective would offer undiluted advice and comments?
Everyone sucks in the beginning. Just gotta learn what you can and keep on it in order to break through.
I don't know if this has been posted before, but if all else fail, why don't you try taking it in RI thru CCRI? I believe we have 125 rebels/nighthawks. Instructor much more friendlier and helpful to newbies like me. I had to switch with another experienced rider because the bike I had was hard to shift. It may be cheaper than the privatized Mass MSF classes.
Good luck.

RI is more expensive than CT, I know that much. And there is no such thing as a Rebel 125 or a Nighthawk 125. They are both 250's. Instructors that are MSF certified are friendly most everywhere. We have RI instructors who teach at the range that I mostly work at in CT. These good people are everywhere
Plus CT has an extra bonus exercise from the ERC!
