It's official, I have the sickness.
Ive been riding an 03 RC51 for the past 4 years.
I always wanted a supermoto, and last summer I rode one for the first time, and loved it. It was a hand xr650.
so last night I picked up two bikes, one for me, and one for my woman.
A Yamaha XT 225 Serow and an ATK 605DS
Both are DS, titled, registerable, etc.
Both are in rough shape though
The Serow looks like this:
It needs:
-tires
-sprocket/chain
-battery
-clean the carb
-cosmetic tlc
-oil change
I can find a pic of the atk, but its sorta like this model, and this is close to what i want it to look like.
it needs:
-fork seals
-chain/sprocket
-timing belt
-keyswitch re-installed
-blinkers reinstalled
-sumo tires and wheels
-air filter
The Yamaha will stay mostly stock, as it will be a learning bike for her.
The ATK though, I want to do excel wheels, different fenders, maybe paint.
Please help get me started in the right direction on where to get tires/parts/forum to join, etc
I was looking through the manual, and they have pretty easy direction on how to replace the fork oil, and say it should be done every year. Will the seals be DIY as well?
I have a friend who will help me lace the excel wheels...
Thanks, and lookingforward to hearing opinions!

Now Im reconsidering my wheels choice.
ATK will sell wheels all laced, with hubs, and a sprocket for like $1200

im seeing 162 for hoops, 200 for spokes..... Almost 800 for just the wheels un assembled?

cliffs on sprtsman tires? Like dualsport tires for the dirty wheels?
Just ordered a battery, brake lever, chain, and sprockets for the XT for ~$100
I love it!
Id really like to go with the 17" wheels, kind of just for looks, but really, im in love with the whole supermoto look. Maybe its just not worth all the money?
Can anyopne suggest some CHEAP tires for the yamaha? i dont even know what size I need. But the thing is so underpowered, and its gonna be a learning bike, it doesnt matter. Im thinking a nce dualsport tire?
Mostly will be driven on road, but learning will be done on the lawn. She is gonna use this bike to get her license.
timing belt? that looks like a smoker from your pic. or am i just way off.

The difference between a street bike and a dirt bike ,in terms of braking, is that 70%+ of braking is done in the front on street bikes whereas the front doesn't get used as much that's why they use such a small brake system on the front. I would at least look for a brake set up.
When I start my KTM in the morning, rules are broken. Its inevitable...
