Not sure how cold it was up there but one morning about two weeks ago I pulled into work and there's a guy's Victory parked outside. It was 11 fucking degrees! I was even more impressed when someone told me his commute was 40 miles.

not really, sometime this winter, if we get a full day below freezing, my plan is to do a sub freezing Saddlesore 1000, my planned route is MA pike, NY thruway and on out to Michigan

but it's not me, my V-strom is in shop getting 67.5k service and ready for StupidBowl Sunday, I should get it back today, been waiting for a new rear caliper

i give that rider just as much respect as the mail carriers and football coaches that wear shorts in the snow. unless you lost a bet, what are you proving?

you think it might be simpler than that, people do things just for the enjoyment

cause you might not enjoy something, doesn't mean that nobody else does

Not to mention perhaps the guy's car wouldn't run today for whatever reason. I am a fair weather rider, but I have ridden in sub-freezing temps, in a snowstorm to get to work because my car was on the fritz. Not my first choice, but better than wasting sick time.

b/c he respects a guy who has the balls/ability/desire to ride in that weather? what i don't understand is why you care that someone else is impressed by this.

    Cause either

A - the guy doesn't have a car to use and would brave a snowstorm on a bike to get to work

    Or

B - the guys got such a passion for motorcycles that he would ride during a snowstorm

Jimmy - Fuck off, spring is around the corner..... lets not start picking apart what is "respectable" or not.

    Re: Respect.

I respect the married guy with kids that's lane splitting on the highway wearing shorts, flip flops and no helmet.

what if someone riding in the snow lost control and smashed into your car? would you respect them still, or call them an idiot for riding in the snow?

i get the enjoyment of motorcyle riding in all weather conditions. do i personally respect people who ride in the snow? nope.

You sound like my wife. Literally. There was a thing on the news about a young women's plan to do a solo ski to the south pole. I thought that was awesome and she certainly earned my respect. My wife couldn't get past the '...why would anyone do that. It exposes her to danger for no good reason.'

I respect the rider for the same reason...as Randy said. Someone who pushes past the envelope of the typical rider and challenges me to consider whether I might do the same.

Good for her...good for him. Boo to you for acting like my highly risk averse wife...!

there are a lot of people who would say "why the hell would you ride a motorcycle at all? it's so dangerous" and they'd have a point. can you really not see that you've simply decided that your endpoint is when it gets too cold out? they're just different lines in the same sand.

    oh, and

tempted - but don't want to deal with the inches of sand/salt that's collected in spots.

Maybe its just my area - but it seems like they are salting/sanding more this year than they did last year. Especially in my town the stuff is everywhere
