RIP A.B. RIP BEET, I Ride in Leathers because I would rather sweat than Bleed...
Im pretty disapointed in the direction that Kawi has decided to take...
yeah their bikes now are on the top of the class, but look at what they gave up to get there.
My (2001) 6R is a very comfortable bike, I can spend an entire day on it and enjoy riding it because my wrists and back isn't giving out (unlike the Brand X riders).
It was nice when Kawasaki catered to people who liked fast bikes that could be riden all day. Now its just another bike another day.
on and on, south of heaven
i like it. less angular than R1.
Sandhammer, read Sport Rider mag this month i think, article on mod 02 6R vs 03 6R. dyno shows pretty much the same performance with few mods.
"fuckit!"
wait until the CBR 998RR
Claimed 165hp![]()
Heijiro Yoshimura, senior chief engineer for the mighty HRC and the man behind the development of the Honda RCV211-V5 race bike, has now turned his hand to road going Honda's firstly with the CBR600RR, and now Honda have asked him to develop the replacement for the legendary Fireblade, the CBR998RR.
The CBR998RR due to be unveiled to the
public on the 10th September 2003. Is expected to look like it's smaller brother the CBR600RR, even down to the underseat exhaust. The all new CBR998RR, is said to be the size of the 600RR and weigh in at 343.2lbs and produce between 160-165 bhp from the 4 cylinder in-line engine.

There are rumors that the 998RR will indeed be a V-5 for the street. There are even some pics I will try to find that show the bike with the V-5 in it.
I WANT MY GSR-V!!

I'm pretty sure the V5 is the RC-211V and the new CBR 998 will continue to be in-line 4

Is that bri the stunt guy??? Just kidden. I did not know you browsed this board.

The GSXR1000 already has something like 160 BHP(brake horsepower). It has 145 rwhp. It's definitely gonna be a nice bike, but it's probably not gonna shit all over the gixxer.
SportRiders dyno shoed 150 RWHP on the 03 GSX-R1000.
I think the new generation of 1000s from Kawi, Honda, and Yamaha will edge out the Suzuki just like they did this year in the 600 class.
What its going to come down to is whats your fav brand, because to even the pros the diffrences are so insignificant. Which is why its going to suck, because all of these newbs are gonna have a field day with their "spec" flame wars.

Your right the RC211V is a V5 utilized in Moto GP but there are rumors and photos of a street going 998cc V5 from honda. The have "de-tuned" it The rumors have been created from info leaked about how this bike will again turn the open class machines on end like the original 900RR did in 92.Originally posted by Brian_C6

I guess we'll have to wait til Sept 10th to be sure though.
CBR998 being a V-5? Not a chance.
I don't think even Honda could make a V-5 and sell it for less than about $15000.00
Just my opinion, I hope I'm wrong.

Nah "it was already announced" the new CBRrr wont be a V-5. I think sport rider last month had a little blurb that did confirm this info, not much else though - it didnt rule out hydrogen deflated hampsters as the power source either...so anything may be left to interpretation.
Will be an interesting year for one-upsmanship, thats for sure. Kawi actually having an entry almost makes things interesting, imagine a 4 way fight for the street crown? dayum.
In unrelated news, R7 bought a Honda product so something tells me he knows something![]()
Exactly what I think.CBR998 being a V-5? Not a chance. I don't think even Honda could make a V-5 and sell it for less than about $15000.00
Claimed 165 BHP at crank = ~145HP at Rear wheel.
I believe the 2004 motorcycles will be announced at the upcoming motorcycle show on Sept. 10th??
14" Biceps. So what if I am weak...
Oh, and one more thing, go Kawasaki !!
I think my next bike will be a ZX-9R, I want comfort and power in my motorcycle! I agree with Sandhammer completely. Kawasaki/Yam/Honda/Suz are now building what kids want to ride, rice-rockets! (very uncomfortable ones)

Sad but true, there's just no money in building a good all around sportbike. Look at the '02 ZX6R, what a wonderful bike, light, powerful, great handling, with comfort that is unmatched in it's class. Did it sell like R6's and Gixxers? Hell no.
Now we've got the 636, a very spectacular motorcycle, but lacking in the comfort dept when you look at the previous generation. And what happens? They sell like hotcakes.
On the other hand, the rush to buy the latest and greatest leaves us with a market busting with nice, comfortable, 1-2 year old motorcycles at bargain basement prices. Sooo...I guess progress is a good thing...
i perceive it as comfort does not equal sporty. comfort = goldwing and nothing in between. that's me.
"fuckit!"
HE DID??[i]In unrelated news, R7 bought a Honda product so something tells me he knows something[/B]
