in that case...i blame Doc.
it took clay and i few minutes to find the source of the problem since it was on the bottom of the crossover line. clearance really would have been a non issue if it had a regular fender on it. the fender stopped at the forks though and didnt extend toward the back of the tire.
rich, either get dual lines or if you go back to that set up get a full fender
i will be putting dual lines on it as well as probably a new fender..
Re: My first highside..... :-(
heres a pic of the bike post crash.. to be honest, what was made to absorb the impact did just that.. the axle jax frame sliders did what they were supposed to do.. the woodcraft clip ons spun some. the aluminum subframe absorbed some.. truth be.... absolute minimal damage. even all the bodywork survived. more pics to come.. and :naughty:naughty:beerbang::shredder:this just gives me the excuse to re-do the entire bike...:naughty:naughty:beerbang::beerbang::shredder::shredder:

Re: My first highside..... :-(
I was very impressed with how it survived that crash. The bike has less damage than you. Oh wait you looked like that before the wreck, only difference is the sling!
Things I found to be fixed:
Front fairing stay (Bend/weld touch ups & added structural strength)
Sub Frame (Bend/weld touch ups & added structural strength)
Replace/ bend clip on unbolt reposition clip on housing
Replace bar end/
Replace Throttle, & Throttle cable
Replace Brake Res, Brake lever (Possibly the entire brake assembly)
Replace (Obviously!) Front brake lines
Reposition rearset (Possibly replace Foot peg)
Reposition Frame slider after moving the location back in place
New tank clamp contraption!
Unmount, clean and remount tires removing all the dirt and grass!
Add a full fender or a bracket to keep lines from ever making contact with the tire again!
New paint job because you want too!
Did I miss anything?
Re: My first highside..... :-(
WOW! Glad you made it out alive and mostly well! I can't imagine going ass over teakettle at 90. I flipped my K7 in T4 at Loudon at only 45ish and that made me about shiat myself. Heal up quick.

So you don't want the brake line off my 748?

Finally, the forensics! I had almost given up learning anything from this episode besides "check everything".

When was the last time you flipped up your brake lines to look underneath for wear?

I wasn't dogging you, just looking to understand exactly how and where it wore through so we all know how many other bikes might be at risk.

It wore through dead center on the cross-over line on the underside. Somewhere that I will definitely focus some attention to in the future. If my fender had been full length we wouldn't be writing about this issue right now because the line would have been protected. So if your fender is full length this shouldn't be a worry. Like I said. I will definitely be adding brakelines to my checklist for safety.
Re: My first highside..... :-(
Guys, how do you think I guessed exactly what happened? In 8 years at the track I've seen it happen enough times that it was my first guess, followed closely by pin falling out, then caliper bolts falling out. Some of the people effected by these issues where highly experienced riders and wrenches. Shit happens, but it is good to be aware of common failures so you can do your best to prevent them. One of those guys was killed, one severely injured, and some got off easy.
Re: My first highside..... :-(
I got off easy.
On the track too
