Got a Goldwing-riding family member looking for decent rain gear. Who makes decent rain gear?
If money IS an object, I like frogg toggs. They run extremely large, so order smaller than usual.
Trashed my first set in a lowside in the rain at Loudon, immediately bought another. I use them for other things too (like fishing).
I use frogg-toggs. They've been fine. No complaints about them.

Pant Road Toad? Reflective Rain Pant - PANTS - MEN
Keep them rolled in my saddle bag. If I'm on my way to work I use them. If I'm on my way home, I normally just don't worry about it. It's just water.
Aren't they made of cloth or am I mistaken? I've seen only one example, coincidentally today, and they felt like fabric

I got one of these a few years back from EMS on clearance and it works great. get it a size or 2 bigger and a jacket can still be worn under it.

Frogg Toggs are basically a Tyvek rain suit. They breathe well and repel water.
I haven't had the pleasure of using mine for their truly intended purpose as of yet however I did loan them to Eric Connolly to go to a Patriots game a few years back that was torrential downpours the whole day and he said they kept him dry.
For your goldwing riding family member, I have heard some other goldwing people complain about the crotch leaking, because the GL seat allows water to "pool" there (I have not experienced this problem) and there is a seam at the crotch. The solution to this is Motorcycle Oversize Beaded Seat Cover - Honda Gold Wing Parts & Accessories by WingStuff.com (people also buy similar beaded seats and DIY them).
As others have said, they do not feel like they would be water proof. They are.
I use Frogg Toggs too. When I bought them I rode to cabelas so I could try them on with my leathers on undernearth. The sizing runs HUGE. I wear an XL t shirt and an XL jacket fits me with a leather jacket, back protector and has room to move around over my jacket.
Bergs, they are butt ugly, but BMW Prorain makes for a great rain suit. They can be worn right over all the gear, including leathers and boots which is a must for rain gear IMO. Having to take off boots just to put rain suit on is a pain.
I have TourMaster rain gear. I have ridden in heavy rain for hundreds of miles and stayed dry. This is the fairly low end of the price scale. Aerostitch is the best money can buy, they actually rode a bike through a car wash several times and stayed bone dry.
Normal is an illusion, what is normal to the spider is chaos to the fly.
Keep in mind Frogg Toggs is a brand name and there is a wide variety in quality. There is a $30 set they sell in walmart that is vastly inferior to the Motorcycle Specific stuff they sell on their site and through higher end retailers.
My suit is about 12 years old and is still 100 percent waterproof. At the trackday today there were several pairs bought yesterday at Walmart and they were already ripped and leaking from the seams being stressed while riding. Not to mention they didn't have zippers to allow you to get them over your boots.
Just checked their site quickly and I'm not seeing the Motorcycle Specific ones... now it's more general. Might take some effort to get the right pair but I think they run about $60 to $80 for the good stuff.

It's a good point Tony. There are plenty of variations in the line. I linked to what I have, and have used. I don't have experience with the entire product line.
As a side note, I would no expect any of these to be "crash resistant" I wear these over my leathers, not in place of my leathers.
If I get off, getting wet isn't my primary concern.
Yeah, those look like the good ones!
And yes, this is only water protection.![]()
definitely get the $60-$80 frogg toggs (or equiv. value higher priced ones)
most if not all others under $60 leak @ the crotch under heavy rain
while we're here...I also like heated grips (if the wing doesn't already have 'em)...mostly all of my gloves (water "resistant" ones included) get water logged whenever I rode in rain...but having some heat under the hands make them bearable under any temperature
