Looking for a good bike to race in the Lightweight class in the LRRS. Was wondering how does this bike stand up against an SV650 on the track. Seems like race stuff (race bodywork, rearsets, etc) seems to be limited for the Kawi 650R but obviously in abundance for the SV650. There are just so many SV650s out there and it would be nice to have something different. I actually like the styling of the Kawi over the SV and I've owned at least one of every major Japanese bike manufacturer other than a Kawi!
I'd race the SV instead.

Scotty Mullins shreds a 650r. I don't know what his has done to it, or how hard it was to build, but he goes like stunk with it.

Brian Kent raced one for a little bit as well.
Parts are way more plentiful and cheaper for the SV, but you gotta go with what turns you on.
I rented one for a day in Hawaii and wasn't impressed with the motor or the clunky shifting. If there are fixes for those things (suspension will probably need upgrading as well) then I don't see why not to use it.
Scotty actually has 2 of them. Superbike and Supersort. He beats Doucette on one of them on occasion so I'd say they are plenty capable.
