Hey All,
A few quick question for all of you...I'm thinking about upgrading my '04 R6 for an '05 R1 (depending on what they change to it). I've ridden for about 2 years. First bike was a 1979 Honda CB750K, then the 04 R6. By the end of this season i'll have over 10K miles on the R6. To date I've never crashed or dropped a bike on street (did a lot when I used to ride off-road). I have two major concerns about upgrading to an R1;
1. Do I have enough experience yet to handle one?
2. Will I want my R6 back?! I love the 'flickability' of the R6 and how absurdly nimble it is in turns. I don't know if losing that would be worth the extra power of the R1. Is there a significant difference in handling between the two?
would love to get some feedback from the vet 1000cc/ R1 riders and also love to hear from anyone who has upgraded from an R6.
thanks in advnce!

If I get another fuckin' bike stolen...
Liter bikes are great if you like to wheelie,and Pose. A 600 if you are into trackdays. The guy to ask is R7, he has owned both.
R1 is a great street bike, tons of power down low, and your not wring the shit out of the throttle all day like a R6. You could easily do with rolling on and off the throttle on twisty roads.
R1 is a tough bike to get around loudon, R6 fells like it was made for the track. You take a little here you got to add a little to over there.
My R1 is a hell of a lot better street bike then the R6 is. I can go further on it and be less fatigue. With a couple of easy $$ mods you can get the R1 to turn in like a R6 as well.
If your going to do alot of track days I would stick with the R6. If you do a lot more street riding I say the R1 is a great set up.
Either way they are both yamaha's so your golden![]()

on the experience, go for it. i think the 1k bike is just as practical as any 600 on the street. you'll get the hang of riding 1 wheel in no time but dont go over your head.![]()
