Lots of good responses. My 2 cents...

My wife first rode with her brother, when he was a newbie. She has no interest in riding.

Before my kids got their first ride, they read the Total Control chapter on being a good passenger. They liked the ride so much, they wanted to get their license. The passenger needs to trust you and know what is expected from them.
You could strap a 50-100lb sack of potatoes on the back to get an idea of how it will handle....just a thought

I always ask new passengers with no bike experience to just stay at the same angle as the seat, and if that's too weird, stay upright. Let me do the leaning and adjusting.
With only a months riding experience, I'd honestly hold off on riding 2 up. I waiting until the end of my first riding season before I rode with a pax. There's enough going on with just yourself on the bike, no need for distractions when you're that new to street riding.
This.
I have it covered pretty well on my bike
