Why so many leftover r1's at dealers?

Im just testing the waters for a new bike and seeing whats up and the R1 is one of the bikes on my list. Im just curious why there are so many leftover models for sale. I can find tons of 2011's, a bunch of 2010's and a few 2009's. Seems like decent deals too. I can get a 2011 shipped to me for under 10k brand new. I cant find any other brands of bikes with leftovers or prices like that. I cant really find any faults in reviews for them either. Maybe its just the crossplain engine that turns people away. Im not even an R1 fan but they look nice and have plenty of power.

It's been the same bike from 09 to 11. They add TC ABS to 2012 and I think the 2013 is the same body style.

i think its something more than that. Plenty of models havent changed and they are nowhere to be found. I dont know if they overmade them or just werent popular. I dont see (or hear) many around but the ones i do the owners love them. I may end up getting one. I can get a blue 2010 still in the crate for $9600 otd. Thats pretty cheap.

Why so many leftover r1's at dealers?
quite simple, dealers ordered and manufacturer shipped more bikes than were sold

where have you been, the economy has been in the dumper for about 4 years, bikes, especially sportbikes are disposable income items

That's seems like a steal. If you have the cake pull the trigger. Could be a early Xmas present for yourself.

I agree that the economy has sucked and bike sales have dove over the years but yet ya see more Ducatis than ever in my opinion. I thought I heard Ducati sales (certain bikes anyhow) have been and still are on the up and up?

I read an article last month (Sport Rider?) that said sales of 1K bikes were increasing (and sales of smaller bikes dropping) because dealers preferred to finance more expensive bikes now (since they were financing most new bike sales anyway.)

This WSJ article says Ducati sales for last year were up more than 40% over the previous year throughout North America.

I saw (and heard) many more this year than I expected (and I stopped to look and/or listen each time.)

The crossplane ain't for everyone. I would recommend flash-tune interface as your very 1st mod. It's going to be your best bang for the buck. Don't waste your time with PC.

When the economy turns south, it kind of makes sense to me that expensive items still sell - the people with money to afford it before are the people who can still afford it now. The ones hit worst are the ones who were young and buying/financing cheap bikes who now can not afford any new bike.

where are these dealers that have overstocked R1's! I'll help them fix that problem.

i dont have the dealer list by me but call around or check cycletrader. There are a couple in NE and lots in jersey and beyond. best prices seem to be below GA. Shipping is only a couple hundred to your door if you want to go that far. i think the best local deal was a 2011 for like 10.5 otd but i cant remember were.

Re: Why so many leftover r1's at dealers?

I feel that magazine reviews may also have something to do with this. The reviews I have read place the R-1 consistently at the tail of the pack for a couple of years now - mostly due to it being over weight and low on top end power - in comparison to the other liter sport bikes. If a person does decide to go ahead and buy a liter sport bike, these reviews may influence the buyer, even though an extra 20 lbs, or the lack of 20 hp on top, makes very little difference on the street, for most people.

Great bikes but not the best of the 1000 cc bikes. They are beautiful and have plenty of power with a beautiful sound. They are on the heavier side (can be quickly fixed with aftermarket cans) and do drink gas a little more than others. They are also built for normal sized adults as opposed to the cbr1000rr

Curious, Pretty sure you're selling HD and Trumpet. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

with as many dealers that have gone under, its not surprising the ones that are left will do better

I picked up a leftover 2011. I absolutely LOVE this bike! (and I'm a twin guy)...Too much power, I think it's pretty nimble, pretty comfy too...I can't wait to get a flash and custom map...If it's at 80% power now, it's going to be stupid at 100%....It has great usable power for the street too...3500 rpms - all the way up to redline!

That's one thing I really miss about the R1, just pick a gear and ride it. I was always amazed at how low in the RPM range it made good power. I couldn't even think of roling on the throttle hard on my RSV4 at 3500rpms...it'll stumble until about 5k and slowly start to pick up
I can see an R1 in my future again

How about a new FZ1 with a crossplane engine and some updates like radial mount brakes traction control and so on. They sound awesome and make good power. They did that I would have one in my garage.

You wouldn't be alone there, that's a pretty popular idea.
Then they made the FZ8. I'm not sure what they were thinking.
I want to say that the FZ8 is not selling. Maybe they're rethink a crossplane FZ1.

Re: Why so many leftover r1's at dealers?

To me, the funny thing is that all of the reviews that I have read about the FZ-1, are pretty much the exact opposite of the R-1. The FZ-1 being notable for having killer top end power, and a lack of bottom and mid range, mostly compared to the Z-1000 and the big GSX Bandit.
