I was talking with a guy that used to work with me, but joined another group in DC. I told him that I was selling the bike and he asked how much did I want for it. After I told him, he said that he wanted it. Said that he'd give me half on July 1, and the other half on August 1, and then pick it up shortly after.
So I thought about it for a while, and initially said no, and that I want the money up front. So he countered and said that I can consider the 1st half of the money as a non-refundable down payment. After the second payment, I mail him the title and key. I'll keep the spare key here in case I need to move it, and give it to him when he gets it.
Once I get the 1st check, I plan on going out and buying a Road Star Warrior, so I don't plan on riding the TL anymore. If the bike gets stolen, I'll consider the deal voided, and he gets his money back.
Am I doing the right thing here?
Yup.
Until early July without a bike....sounds no good to me!
Plus the warrior is not the bike to have at Deal's Gap
Jamie
Sure it is. When your ass gets all sore from riding and carving all day, I'll be poking along right behind you in style and comfort.![]()
I'm actually kinda anxious to take it out and see what it can do. It's not that heavy, and it's got R1 based suspension. I hear you can swap the forks for R1 forks, and then all i'd have to do is maybe get a beefier spring, and I'm set.
But make no mistake - this bike is strictly for BIG PIMPIN'. I plan on shopping for one when I get the 1st check. He said that I can still ride it if I wanted, but knowing my luck, something would happen.
Road Star Warrior. Faster and cheaper than a Harley, with the soul of an R1. Bring it!![]()
Yup.
Heheh...
Have you rode many cruisers? That thing can't be much more comfy than a sportbike.
No issues with your knees but your back & butt will be even worse!
Ben
You're on crack. Have you ever ridden a TL more than 30 minutes before? It's hell. ANY cruiser is better than that. And yes, I have ridden this bike before, and it's quite nice. I'd probably spring for a Corbin seat after a while, but most stock seats aren't that great anyway - cruisers AND sportbikes.Originally posted by benSV

Cam,
The RS Warrior is an awesome bike!! My brother has one and I have had the pleasure of beating on that thing. It is so much fun. So much torque! I want to get one of these and keep my R1 as well. It rides really nice. It stops nice too. Same brakes as my R1! Yamaha did a good job with this one. It is a great tire burner. Watch out for the ground clearance, it is a little low![]()
Nathan
Sweet! That's what I like to hear. Yeah, you can definitely lose a little ground clearance if you drop it a few inches. I love the slammed look, but I don't wanna sacrifice lean angle. Also, the pipes you go with have a big effect as well. The long shots like the ones in this pic tend to scrape a lot.
I'm writing up the contract now for him to review. Hopefully we can agree to it by today.
Yup.
Cam, that bike is really nice. I know it will be a lot of fun in the gap and it will be easier for you to stop to take photos of us riding!!In the next year or so I see myself getting a cruiser but keeping the sportbike too!
Jamie
Wow the TL must REALLY be a rack if it's worse than a cruiser.
Ben
I seriously cannot believe that you think a sportbike would be more comfortable than a cruiser. Are you trying to say that if you had a choice to ride either a F4i/R6 or a Softail/VTX to Florida, you'd pick a sportbike?
Have you ridden one longer than 15 minutes?![]()
Yup.
i think it depends a little on your definitions of "cruiser" and "sportbike."
i think my SVS was more comfy than the nighthawk 250, personally.
i think the effect would be even more pronounced on cruisers w/ higher bars...

The only "intuitive" interface is the nipple.
HELL Yes! I rode the SV to Deal's Gap last year and it was pretty much OK except for my knee cramping up. I figure any sport bike with enough peg -> seat distance I'd be fine on for a trip. If the bars are low enough I'll get annoyed in bumper to bumper traffic but if I'm doing a trip hopefully I'm avoiding big cities anyway.Originally posted by Cam_In_RI

Not saying anything about the TL but versus a cruiser, I'll cruise at a faster speed (wind protection) on my VFR, and I'll go probably close to 100 miles further between gas stops. That alone makes it much better if I have to ride it all day.
Yep... only like 2 hours though. I think that was enough.

I just don't deal well with the forward pegs and high bars. On a sportbike I can shift my weight around from feet, to butt, to hands, on the cruiser it was awfully hard to get my butt off the seat to shift around or to brace for a bump.
Ben
I sold a 2000 Fat Boy for the 2000 Ducati and I can ride the duc for a much longer time. The fatty made my lower back hurt pretty bad especially when I traveled by highway, I had all I could do to say on the damn bike. I can ride my ergo friendyOriginally posted by Cam_In_RI

Eh... "Sport-Touring" is largely just a "bad" name attached to bikes which are no longer the fastest thing on the road.
The VFR has perhaps been designed to be more comfy, but none of the Ninjas are AFAICT. In any case compared to a cruiser I would still say the VFR, Sprint ST, Futura, ST2/3/4, etc.. are sportbikes. They are all just crotch rockets to anyone other than us.
Ben
That's really weird that you found the fatboy uncomfortable. I haven't ridden one for a long period of time, so I can't really say. At any rate, ergos are gonna be different for different people because we all have different body types. What might be fine for you may suck for me, and vice versa. The TL puts a ton of weight on my wrists, and my legs cramp up if I'm not busy shifting around on a windy road. So it's time to go. Plus I just want something different.
In general, if a cruiser (not a rigid frame) has decent wind protection, it's SUPPOSED to be more comfortable when going long distances.
Yup.
bro just get a diff bike

That fat boy was way more comfortable than my bike for cruising, it's like sitting in a recliner. I don't know how you all think differently or if you're just standing behind a biased opinion. I've done 15 hour days on the 929, and I've done 12 hour straight, just stop for gas highway trips on it too and I'll tell you I'd rather do it on a cruiser. Not like I'd trade mine for one in a million years, but they are way more comfotable to hang out on.
