reserve an MSF spot for her...
no disrespect for your teaching skills, but it's a great course.
and the insurance discount don't hurt none, neither.

looking for a bike for the lady....

A good bike for your woman is the one SHE feels comfortable with.

    EX500, Ninja 250, Katana 600, Rebel 250...

There are many to choose from. Make sure she can touch the ground with her toes whilst sitting on the bike, and can somewhat handle the weight. Adjust the levers to her hand angle.

Leather jacket, leather gloves, leather boots, and a helmet are a must.

MSF class: here in NH the advantage to taking the class is you get your license at the conclusion. The alternative is to take the skills test, which is hard for most riders to pass.

I'm teaching my wife to ride. Her bike is a Katana 750: a little big but free. She will be taking the MSF class this weekend (read: fair warning, off the streets!!!)

Yeah....the MSF class is definite. Just wanted to get her on a bike before. I took the class myself and learned a lot.

    :-P

edit: so i'm not accused of being a complete bastardizer... the lack of plastic is often a good thing for a first bike... but i'll echo everyone else who sez "something she likes and feels comfortable with." as long as it's not an R6

The Buell Blast is a really great starter bike and looks a hell of a lot better than the Rebel 250...

Rui talk to me Sat night about it.. we'll go over good starter bikes... my preferences are

86-88 FZ600 (light weight easy maintence... ie air cooled)
    ex500's same as above
depending on her skills perhaps even an early cbr600 (she won't be bored with it in a year)
gs500's are a good choice if she likes their styling
along with TONS of other bikes... we'll chat in person Sat.

looking for a bike for the lady....

I have the perfect bike for ya, its a 93 Katana 600 only 7100 miles on it, extra set of brand new tires not mounted on it yet, shop manual and extra oil filter. all for $2,000.

My wife bought it last season, rode it a couple of times 150 miles total, and decided she liked to be a passenger a lot better, we just got dirt bikes and she likes that 100 times better.

I say it is the perfect beginer bike cause she layed it down twice a 0 mph in a parking lot, then a 7 mph low side into a curb, so it doesn't look real pretty but she won't have to worry about dropping it during the learning process. It runs well, plenty of power, but not too much for the newbie.

    lemme know.......

    beginner bike

Speaking of the Buell Blast.....just saw one in the Boston Globe yesterday. Asking price was $3500.

If I recall the reviews when the bike came out, it is a very "beginner friendly" bike and has a very low seat height.

Also as others said, the ES/GS 500's would be good. Isn't that what some of the training classes use?
