gimmie a Storm Bee that either has more range when weighing in at 280lbs, or less weight with a 40 mile range.
actually that might be cool - a dual sport chasis and 2 batteries: a lighter one with 30 mile range for moto's or just putting around for post work "C" rides...put the bike at 235lbs..then a heavier one (or optional 2nd battery in a top case-ish area) that makes it a 300lb street/ADV bike that has a range of 100 miles that you can charge at public stations.
Unfortunately pictured pre production model has the off road trail performance of a DRZ400, a 60 mile range, top speed of 68mph, and weight of 280lbs

very slippery looking design![]()
Sur Ron announced the Ultra Bee 3 weeks ago - looks like a 3/4 size frame dirt bike, top speed 56mph, on 19” wheels, but only 185lbs!
Will be sold as an OHV in the US, but the marketing pics show it with signals and lights, so I am hoping factory parts bolt on, or someone makes a kit, then I can plate it in CA. The state just requires lights, horn, reflectors, tires in the California Vehicle Code to be made street legal; so I may be able to plate this as it will be emissions compliant.
If it’s priced between the $4,500 light bee and the $8,500 storm bee; somewhere around $6,500k, then I’m a buyer. It would entirely replace YZ duty for my local fire road/single track, do 1-3 hour “dirt bike rides”, and be maintenance free. Keep a gasser for big bike duty, and retire the YZ as a restoration project. I can commute 3-4 days a week on it too since I don’t do any freeway.

Rear shock geo looks more traditional than the bolt upright setup on the Storm Bee. This looks like a direct competitor to KTM's Freeride-E XC, and if it'll charge off 110v it'll be the better bike.
I don't know how much you want to uncork it, the batt is just slightly larger than the Freeride-E unit, and they're not known for ride time already?
Freeride E-XC is 18kW (24.5 hp) motor with a 3.9kWh batt, 92.5kg (204lbs) to 111kg (245lbs) weight depending on where you look. $11,299 MSRP, not including freight or charger. Charger is still, in 2023, 220v only?!
Ultra Bee is 12.5kW (16 hp) motor, 4.1kWh batt, 85kg (187lbs) and that weight includes the charger as it's onboard.
KTM vs Ultra
Fork - 43mm inverted, 250mm travel vs 37mm inverted, 240mm travel
Rear - 260mm travel vs 240mm
Seat Height - 910mm vs 910mm
Wheelbase - 1418mm vs 1380mm
Ground Clearance - 340mm vs 318mm
Wheels - 21/18 vs 19/19
Sur Ron claims 87mi at 25mph, depending on terrain. That's 3.5hrs of run time at 25mph. The Freeride is reviewed as about a 20mi range in the woods, the 'city range' is about 60mi. So adjust what you think the Sur Ron can pull off as you see fit.
yup, Paul nailed it. it passes the application test for a weekly dirty fix. It doesn't pass the biggest/baddest numbers test. I get the feeling our views are aligned on what we want from this one.
15mph will be the average on most rides (including some desert rides), but on certain dirt bike rides, a 15mph section or less may drain a lot of power because it's a steep hill climb, or full power bursts to get through a section.

@Paul:
I don’t see much roosting nor a lot of floating WOT whoops; guessing this is something between a mountain bike and a dirtbike; not a ripping machine… which could make it well suited to tighter trail riding

can't wait to scope the VARG in person when it hits Motorsports Int. ...if one even sticks around.

Ultra bee will be sold as off road vehicle in US and Canada
CA mostly cares about emissions; so as long as all the DOT equipment is on there, I should be able to plate it
Yeah idk if the true dirt e bikes will have the same fate as Alta

Alta failed primarily because their skittish investors chickened out and pulled their funding.
(I'm sure there were many causes, but I'm told that things were generally going very well until that happened)

do you think they won’t follow through? i keep seeing demo bikes being ridden/tested and even showing up locally. Motorsport had one in house last month.
it’s not a bike for me, too in love with my little 2T, but i’m excited about it.
Stark is currently quoting June ’24 delivery for orders placed now.

No more oil changes, valve checks, top ends, or fuel pumps.
An electric steed makes a good “3rd/screw around bike” in the stable. It doesn’t replace big bike/street bike/track bike duty.
Good pit bike, post work ride bike, 2-3 hour bike…and maybe an ice bike?
