Assessing the Benefits of Different Exhaust Systems

I am trying to figure out what to do about my damaged slip-on exhaust for the new season. I think I will probably buy a replacement can at a minimum, but I might also take this chance to upgrade to a full system. Is there any way to assess the potential weight saving/power gain other than just looking at manufacturers' claims? I don't want to drop $800 for a 2% improvement in either category.

You didn't have a full system on that bike? It was just a sllip-on?

Pipes are consumables. Go with a cheap slipon. As soon as you spend big money on a system, you will mash it. That's racing. SVs don't need a lot of HP to go fast.

Ya, why did you think otherwise? I've actually never looked that hard at it, maybe I'm wrong.

Because I have a full system and assumed you did too. Or something.

Gen 1's and 2's are different here maybe. The gen 1 exhaust is one (enormous) single piece. Where the aftermarket system is a bunch of smaller pieces fit together. I always thought I'd seen the springs holding the bits on yours together. Although now that I admit this out loud I realize I probably never looked at your bike quite that closely.

I have a Yosh system on both my SV's now.

I would think that benefit would come from a complete high level of tune including head work

Otherwise usually lose low end without much gain on the top end

You might cruise the interweb here for some one parting stuff out

That's definitely what I will do if I decide to upgrade.
