    Mirrors

    Soooo I have a question ...

I finally was able to ride the R1 into work today and found that I can't see directly behind me with the mirrors. No matter how I position them I can see side lanes fine, but I can't see behind the tail of the bike. What do you guys do? I like to sit at lights and glance at the mirrors every few seconds to be sure I'm not going to be rear-ended. I also like to know if anyone is behind me when I'm riding along so if something happens I know if I should be watching my ass as well.

Now before you torch me, I'm caming off my first bike which was the Z1000 and had handlebar mounted mirrors, so I always had the view. This is my first true super sport style street bike, this is new to me.

    Any suggestions?

    Re: Mirrors

idk if the r1 and the r6 are the same as far as the blind spot goes but i have to shift a little to the left or right when i want to see directly behind me... also tend to stop at a red light way off center so i can see whats going on behind me.

    Re: Mirrors

The summer I rode R1's R1, I used to lift my arm and look through my under arm. Seeing it was not my bike I never looked, but are there mirror extenders?

    Re: Mirrors

Looked for mirror extenders and couldn't find anything doing a google and ebay search. I can shift my body and left my arm to look, but being a bit taller 6'1" it's enough movement that it isn't easy to just glance.

Don't stop in the middle of the lane... stop towards one side or the other and you should be able to see behind you enough to know if a car's about to hit you or not.

Tried that - I can barely see at that point, and if the car drifts to my side of the lane again it winds up in the blind spot.

I mean I guess it's a silly problem to have, but I just like to be well aware of what's happening around me at all time and I don't like the feeling of that blind spot.

Never had an R1 but have always been able to position my mirrors so I could see ok by bending my elbow out of the way. Try pushing the stalk forward more and then moving the mirror around.

Yup, angle em in further so they look at your elbows and just tuck in your elbows when you want to see right behind you.

Or you could just buy bar ends.

I'm considering buy bar ends - we'll see. I'll play with them some more here and there.

I'm pretty sure Bomo/Landrics could install these for you if the price is right...

    Re: Mirrors

The only thing I don't like about bar ends is that it moves the mirrors down and out of your peripheral vision. Range of view is great but you gotta take your eyes off the road a little more to see behind ya.

I did not like the bar ends, mostly for the reason stated above. I must be an oddity.
