What's out there that's earbud-based, microphone-simple, and portable that ya ain't gotta fugg up your helmets cutting the ICM into?
Anyone using anything like that?
Search Motocomm on ebay. I use it for music and radio comm. cheap, effective. Dont expect to have conversations at highway speeds, but you get your point across.

the scala headset is nice and doesn't require modification. 2 speakers go in helmet, microphone etc. I can have a cnvorsation at 80 mph on the highway with minimal distortion on either side, also ipod plugs into it too
Nah, I was thinking about comms between my passenger and me. My daughter's going along for the bike transit up North, would be cool to have some comm..
On the other hand, there IS the attention factor..
Then I would go with Word's suggestion of the Scala teamset. Webbikeworld.com writeup.

+1 for the Scala Teamset.
I've been using it on my touring bike for a couple of years and have been very satisfied.

Scala...been using the "teamset" for a couple years and dig it, currently waiting on the Q2 multiset to arrive this week for the new lid(s). If you're interested in using it ONLY for communication to you two, dig up a Scala Rider Teamset setup for short $$ and be pleased with it. I paid about 175$ for my teamset NIB on ebay back when, should be able to find similar for ~110$ it looks like.
There is also a Scala G4 coming out shortly which has A2DP audio and allegedly ~1 mile range for inter-bike use. Seems pretty decent, but pricey at 250$ a single unit.

Sounds like the Scala is the pkg..
Tx for the replies..
Scala just sent me a pair of Q2's to play with. Can't wait to try them out!

Q-2s? What's the gig with those?
I've currently got a Scala Q2 - not madly impressed. Currently dont have it installed, as it seems that the mic boom is dying, or losing sensitivity
