    Freak's Moto Rebuilds (long)

The Short n' Sweet of it is that I crash street bikes like Denno crashes his race bike...too many times. First I blew a corner in NY at around 70 mph on the Aprilia, other than a bent front rim and a mangled exhaust canister she was not too banged up. Then, a month later, I decided to test the warm-up period of a Dunslop Qualifier on the Kawi, washed out the front and messed her all up too.

JCBell asked me to toss up some pics of the bikes, and the paint prep.
I just finished wet sanding the Priller tank today and both bikes are ready for filler, primer, and paint...but what a pain in the ass!

The Kawi is getting the same Candy Green Mettallic paint as before, however, I had Tommy Graves Customs powder coat the wheels, and all the grey plastic is going to be gloss black. She will look awesome, especially with the new Scorpion CF slip on!
The Priller is going back to factory...black with race decals...which will look very nice as well.

Getting the bikes cleaned, new rubber, and taken apart:

    kawi

with the pc'd wheels and new exhaust

    Ape

and at the shop getting scratched: pre sand

    ...and post sand

Guinness the Keeper of the Shop

Place that is painting the bikes is called The Auto Shoppe...Scott is doing me a HUGE favor by letting me do the shit part of the prep. He specializes in vintage restorations and american muscle show cars, among other things. So the bikes are going to look better than when they rolled off the factory floor...well, the paint anyway.

    nice man.

so i'm guessing the ETA back on the road is two weeks or so? make sure you give that paint plenty of time to dry.

Bout 2 weeks for the Kawi from paint to re-assembly...Scott uses PPG's new water base paint, and we found the Kawi paint in the system today (which is good because if we had to get it from Color Rite I would have paid an extra $450 bucks for the paint)...the clear coat is still solvent based, but the paint is dry in like 10 min...still gotta bake the clear though.
I really can't wait, I think I forgot how to ride by now.

Come on I was right behind you and I had a buck 40...50 easy on the clock

Bikes are gonna look sweet. Pray for more rain and warmer and lets head.

A friend had an 01 9R too...I think the gray will look better black. Forget how to ride? Never. Whatever bike you saddle up first will put an ear to ear grin on your face

Looks good. I here you on the paint prep, it sucks. I just dropped the bodywork off for the track bike to the painter. I had enough of that.

You know, that bike would actually make a pretty cool streetfighter...

    Re: Freak's Moto Rebuilds (long)

Bike is finally painted!!!!! And of course I am so anal about the new paint, I don't even want to touch it...so HUGE PROPS to F4IGuy for basically putting the bike together for me yesterday. Could not have gotten down what we did without ya bro.

He's also the one who came over two weeks ago and said "Why not get the 9 out, it runs right?!" Never mind the fact that its got no headlight, brake lights, or blinkers!

It was awesome to get back in the saddle, even for 20 min, and we eventually rode it in to the shop to rebuild.
The paint came out great, went with a darker green metallic that is absolutely stunning!
Instead of the bike being lime green met. with grey accents, it is now a beautiful dark green with black!
Pictures truly do not do any justice to how good this paint looks.

More props and thanks go to Scott, Brain, and Corey at the AutoShoppe for getting the repairs done and getting her painted!
    Should be ready by Sat!!!!!
