    The Perfect Motorcycle

Disclaimer: I stole this from Motorcycledaily.com, so props to them.

Anyway, I thought this would be a fun topic, so here goes nothin.

"Here is a simple one. Tell us about the perfect motorcycle. Your perfect motorcycle. The one bike you would like to have in your garage if you could only have one bike. Maybe the bike already exists, and you already own it. Maybe it only exists in your mind.

Tell us how many cylinders it has, how much it weighs and its ergonomics. Is it simple and light? Complex and heavy? Lots of wind protection or naked? Is it designed just for the street, just for the dirt, or a combination? Maybe, your opinion is that there cannot be the perfect motorcycle, and you want to share that."

    Post away.

Thanks for being a buzzkill and totally not getting the point of the thread...

    I'll go first then.

My perfect bike for me would have to be the SV650. I've never owned one, but have ridden them, but I have had Duc Monsters. They do everything well. Touring, riding to work, trackdays, even LRRS. Great bikes.

    Re: The Perfect Motorcycle

Mine (shockingly) is pretty damn tough to call, but personally if I could only have one... I'd be keeping my ZRX. It does absolutely everything well that I ask of it, from commuting to work, back-road strafing, 2-up touring and I had a ball on it at track days. Its only downfall is it's a big, heavy bike but it doesn't feel it once rolling and it's a benefit for touring / highway riding and hardly notices a passenger. Unlike a large ST bike (FJR1300 or C14) I like it for it's naked look for commuting and around town duties, it could use more weather protection but I'm happy giving that up for the overall awesomeness aspect of it.

Plus, it's got a Kerker on it, and chicks dig Kerkers.

Mine is going to change within 6 months, but today its either a Ducati S4RS or the air cooled S2R 1000. Can't be stock - I need Rizoma everything and that single headlight has to go, but I envision myself (rather cool-ly I might add) tooling around on a bad ass Monster.

    Re: The Perfect Motorcycle

I'd probably go with something like the VFR800. Quite possibly the best mix of sporty chassis, capable motor, and long distance comfort.

Taking that idea a bit further, I think if Aprilia made a modern-day Futura based on the RSV4 (same compact dimensions, same motor, more useful ergonomics), that might do it for me.

But for the majority of the riding I do, the ZX-10R seems to fit just fine. I can throw my Cortech bags on and go for miles, I just wish the fuel range was better.

    Re: The Perfect Motorcycle

The Futura was definity a litle ahead of it's time, but I do think it could be a close contender to the VFR800 which I would second as my everyday bike with passenger.

On my own.... I would say I fell in love with Scottie Ducati's 848. I don't think I have ever ridden a better sprung bike in my life and I wish i could buy that bike from the factory, offsets, suspension and all, just with street legal lights..... I'd still keep the slicks on it though. ;-)

My dream bike is likely a twin, supermoto "shape" and ergos, very light weight, some sort of removable mini-fairing or windscreen, and beefy enough for two up.

I have yet to find the bike. Someday.

"beefy enough for two up" - not a Hyper

Hmm, never tried it two up, but I'm sure it's "beefy enough" in terms of the frame / chassis can handle it. The seat on the other hand, likely not so comfy!

KTM SM/T - in the states this year

not in the "very" light weight category, but a fantastic balance of SM and street/touring. This would be my current street bike if I could afford it

    The new Multi...Tourer edition...everything I want...period.

(Except that I would like to keep my 750 ss track bike too...! But, in accordance with your rules, I'd use the Multi on the track and probably would take 4-5 seconds off my best lap time too!)

My perfect bike: 160+ HP at the rear wheel, <450 lbs wet, shaft drive, comfy/sporting ergonomics, 30k+ mile valve adjust intervals, superb quality factory hard luggage (with one key that operates the bike and the luggage), ABS, traction control, and a fairing with some weather protection. It will also need 45+ MPG and a 7+ gallon fuel tank.

I got that..Well, close: Without the bags, I got 90 or 95% of a ZX-14. Yeah, it's heavy, but stable.

    With the bags, I got:

Same bike, room for two, and the bags only mean I got room to pack for a few days, the trunk means even more storage, per my avatar. But when I wanna storm around, be a squid, I drop the extra gear and move along. That said, it cost me 12 grand and a Suzuki Bandit I dropped 2 grand over cost. Not everyone has that kinda dough to drop on a lark. But for me, pretty perfect. I have a fantasy I follow you hooligans up to Loudon sometime, drop the bags off of it and run it on the track up there, or even better, have a hooligan that knows what he's doin' turn four or five laps on it and tell me what it's REALLY made of. I got no way to use all the power, but someone good might. Greggie or someone?

THAT said, I'm gonna dump it at further exhorbitant cost for 10 grand with the farkle, 5 year warranty and 5000 miles and not a scratch.

    Why? I WANT the 2010.

perfect motorcycle eh? It would ride like my SV but have more umphs (maybe sv 1000?), still be lightweight, have the gas efficiency of a vespa, naked styling with futuristic steam punk influence, a super smart computer that could detect radars, could detect collusion course with other vehicles and send warnings via blue tooth to my matching perfect helmet, built in gps, built in hand grip warmers, belt driven or direct drive so no more ucky dirty chain lube everywhere, be made of futuristic metal composite that doesn't wear to the elements and an exhaust that doesn't discolor due to high heat, have suspension worthy of light duty off roading, and provided storage without looking like a dorky tourer.
