Re: Anyone ever been pinched for loud pipes?
I never said it was only one particular kind of bike. Or exhaust style. In fact I listed a few exhausts that are built for rice rockets only, that are on par with a straight piped twin, which are well over 100 decibels. Racefit, I mentioned that name numerous times now, makes 130 decibels. I also mentioned idiots on rice rockets waiting in traffic at a light reving their bikes for no apparent reason. You paraphrased a pile of what I had already said, my mistake for not explaining it even more clearly, apparently I'm giving the wrong impression.
Each and every time I've been to Donny's I was respectful of, well, everything. I do however remember some fools being stupid, and none were on Harleys.
And in typical NESR fashion we've all taken this one way off course.
And I can confidently tell you in my experience the douches that see people in the yard, or say sitting outside on the deck at the hancock hotel at the intersection of 125 and 100, that have the need to deafen everyone have been on straight piped Harleys.
I'm not stupid, I realize it happens on both sides. I'm in no way defending any one particular bike, exhaust, or whatever.

Im just saying, if it takes banning aftermarket pipes to get these asshats from pulling this bullshit, Im all for it. Ill find another way to customize my bike.
You can't legislate against asshats. If we could then we'd all be happy... except for the fact that none of us would be able to leave our houses w/o breaking the law.
I hate straight pipes as much as the next non harley rider, but I think this is one of those "slippery slope" issues that could easily lead to ridiculous laws that restrict our rights as riders... and I'm not in favor of that.
Re: Anyone ever been pinched for loud pipes?
Mine did have baffles but they were equivalent of d&d pipes. Yes I bought them to be annoying. If I was to do an HD again or any v-twin I would do it differently . Plus my new BMW doesn't have a pipe, maybe I've out grown it?
Re: Anyone ever been pinched for loud pipes?
Nope, but I once got pulled over for a swingarm that was too long...
Re: Anyone ever been pinched for loud pipes?
I would much rather put others before myself than put myself before others. Sure a bike with an exhaust sounds good, but I would much rather know that I am not pissing people off in the mean time.

Re: Anyone ever been pinched for loud pipes?
Gotta admit, I have fun sneaking up on people with my damn near silent stock CBR250R... as much as I LOVE the sound of a properly piped bike, and would love to toss 15lbs off my 350lb bike... I don't want to make it any louder, it's too damn fun in full stealth.

You're not giving the wrong impression, I simply had the events of last bike night in memory, and wanted to present the other side of the "harleys and straight piped bikes coming through". I tried to make it clear that I wasn't addressing you in particular by describing Donny's, since I know that you've been there before. I think it's more relevant, in a community like NESR, to address the sport bike side of the issue, since we are part of the community that represents sport bikes in the public eye. If we can't learn to police ourselves, somebody else will do it for us.
Re: Anyone ever been pinched for loud pipes?
I have a different exhaust on my bike because it looks good and took 20 pounds off. Yes its loud, too loud but it's all I could afford. I try to be considerate of others by not driving late at night if possible or reving it all the time. It does make a beautiful noise though.
