I just can't stay away from it, I have to touch it sometimes
I copied this from my post on the R6 board so just ignor the questions unless you have some useful input
I started making my own plate and signal holder about a week ago and kinda forgot about it until yesterdays big snow storm.
I made a paper template and traced it on a peice of 1/16" aluminum plate and cut it out with a small band saw. I still have to paint it but I'm not sure yet, I may just sand it to give it a brushed aluminum finish and a coat of clear? Or paint it satin black?
I almost went with LED but I had these signals on my R1 and thought they were pretty bright, so I didn't have to bother with a flasher or resistor.
The new vs the old

From the back. Any ideas for a plate light?
Side shot
Under, what is everyone doing with that big hole? I want to plug it somehow to keep water out if I get cought in the rain. Also thinking of losing the wingnuts on the plate reflectors.
The underside. I used the same bolts from the stock peice and just flipped them upside down and put the nuts under the seat. I used the 2 nuts that held the stock plate bracket to the mudflap thing, and 2 more nuts that hold the reflector brackets to the plastic mudflap thing

Thats pretty slick lookin.![]()
I know a little about everything, and alot about nothing.
Looks good! What about a couple of flush mounted white LED's for a plate light? Thats what I did on my gf's FZ-6, they light the plate up nice. I wish I had taken pics now![]()
You do some nice work.
Are the turn signal tabs on the bracket you made just bent up like the mount?
nice, dude
For the hole, u can probably find a rubber grommet that you can plug it up w/ and still run the wires through at a hardware store... somethin that's just a round plug w/ a slice through it for the wires
EDIT: Maybe somethin like this? Even matches the bikehttp://www.stockcap.com/prod_detail.asp?id=112&cat=12
And for the plate lights, I've seen lighted plate bolts like this one... should work but i dunno about passing inspection

I'll have to look into the LED plate lights. I'm not to worried about a inspection, I've been riding for 10 years and never had a bike inspectedI just want some sort of light so I don't get stopped at night, who knows the tail light may give off light ennough to be ok

drunkdriver, the signal tabs are bent just like the upper part and it's all one peice. I don't have the proper tools to bend stuff so I got a little creative and used to peices of steel and a pair of visegrips, worked pretty good IMO![]()

Pete, thanks for the links, I'll have to look into those yellow plugs, nice find![]()

I have the lite-n-boltz on my bike. This is also a nice alternative nice alternative
I used to have a link to a similar one that I thought looked nicer but I can't find it

I have one of those LED plate lights. Works really good. It gives off a blue-white sort of light and looks cool.
Hey Mark,
Ask OreoN2 (Brent) where he got his plate light. It is a small L.E.D. mounted in a good looking housing. Actually his bike is at Jaynnus' house if you want to go take a look at it, that is if she let's you.

yeah, now that i think of it my bike doesn't really have a plate light either, just a clear strip along the bottom of my brake light lense that lets the tail lights do the work.

Holy shit some one else remembers that show.........
So many times I have asked people if they remember the show with Simon that would draw in the land of chalk and they look at me like I have seven heads. Guess I'm not the only old guy around.

LED tail lights don't give off to much down facing light to light a plate though

I have these, the ones Pete posted:
http://www.cyclegear.com/spgm.cfm?L...tem=DEN_30301_G
on my bike and they will pass inspection, but you will need at least 2.
The only problem is that the wire is very thin, brittle, and hard to connect to anything. Also, the wire casing is tough so it is difficult to strip the wire and have any contact surface left. What really sucks is that since those lights act as the bolts to mount the bracket, you have to take the bolts off and disconnect the wire to take the plate off.
