They're lying to themselves. They just want more excuses why its "beter" to buy a bigger bike because they're too insecure to just say "I like it more cuz its faster... Period"
I bought a 9R instead of a 6R when I was shopping because I planned to wear it out (it has 102,000 miles, so far) and figured it would last longer. I could have had a 12R or a GSXR1000 if max power was really important. I like being able to cruise at 3000 RPM on the 9R and still have decent torque on tap.
The 6R and the 9R of 2001 vintage are quite similar in style, weight, maintenance, and ergonomics; and share many parts. From a practical POV, one just has a bigger engine than the other. To cover a given distance at a given speed, the 600 will require more engine revolutions and more engine strain than a 900. Assuming identical maintenance and no catastrophic failure, the 600 has to have more wear since revolutions and load are what wears out an engine. It's not BS and that hard of a concept to understand.

Also I don't like some of the attitudes of people that ride those big bikes because they try to look and ride like bad asses and really they just look like fools.
So the only people who should buy 1000s are AMA champions and higher.
And I'm not just glad liter bikes exist, I'm glad squids exist too. And I bet you any dealership and shop owner is way happier they exist than you.

Re: Questions About Squids and Squidly Activity
There is some weird mentality that a 600 is a starter bike and a 1000 is what you 'graduate' to. I don't quite understand that. But, the speed you can get vs price of a 1000cc sportbike is really unmatched and that makes sense to me. It would be great if those people could figure out that turning a motorcycle is way more fun that twisting the go stick.

Re: Questions About Squids and Squidly Activity
I don't like squids BC some of them can give motorcyclist a bad name.
On the other hand, I like squids BC I can get used parts/bikes for dirt cheap.

Re: Questions About Squids and Squidly Activity
Personally, I think ya'll are crazy for riding those torture racks on the street. 250 or 1300, doesn't matter. Anything that uncomfortable and that purpose built seems silly for street use.
But I understand the need for displacement. I had a liter+ sized nekid before my current 650. I chewed up tires and lofted the wheel leaving stoplights. I downsized intentionally in the hopes of curbing some of that. But I do miss it on the interstate. Rolling at 4k RPM instead of 6k RPM doesn't sound like much, until you do it for an hour. And being able to roll on in top gear without even thinking about a downshift has its advantages too.
As for squids, I have no fuckin' idea. Nor do I care. To each their own.

Re: Questions About Squids and Squidly Activity
But you can answer yor own question. You said you can't ride your 600 to it's limits. Why did you buy it and you didn't buy or stay with a 250?

I probably should have started on a 250 and tracked the shit out of it. However I did get a good deal on my bike but I do posses the skills to ride the bike confidently and competently without riding like a douche.
This question was all about squids and then a few people came in all butthurt and it got out of hand.
If you don't ride like an asshole and you have the skills to ride the bike you're on then this is not directed at you. If you're an idiot and ride like an ass then you suck.
Don't like my opinion then that's cool. I thought this could be a much more civil conversation but I guess I was wrong. I shouldn't have even started this thread.

That's a fallacy and a bunch of red herrings all in one. If all you are doing is cruising speed, you can maintain the same RPM with a small or a large displacement bike. If the both engines are spinning at the same speed, the engine with the longer stroke is performing more work than the engine with the shorter stroke technically. Most larger displacement bikes have longer strokes than smaller displacement bikes, meaning that a larger mass is being pushed/pulled at a longer distance in the larger displacement bike than the smaller displacement bike. In that scenario where both RPM's are equal while cruising, the longer stroke bike (liter bike) is performing more work.
However there is so much more to mechanical reliability than simply displacement.

I'm not saying it's NOT TRUE... I have no idea if it can actually be proven to be true or not and I'm not about to get into that argument because there are definitely two sides of it (as seen in the post above) and I'm not an engineer. It also doesn't matter if it's true or not because that's not what I'm getting at here.
What I'm saying is that YOU are one person in THOUSANDS who uses that line of reasoning and ACTUALLY BACKS IT UP with an odometer reading. 99 times out of 100 when someone uses that line they're reaching at straws and grasping for reasons to justify buying the bigger bike that they just plain WANT.

Re: Questions About Squids and Squidly Activity
I've had 2 1k bikes in the past several years. My first 1k was extremely easy to ride and very forgiving (although not an SS). My current 1k bike is a lot more bitchy (yes that is a technical term). It scares the crap out of me every time I try to push it. But it's a hell of a laugh to ride.

Lol... You start a thread all butthurt about a certain group of people, what they ride, how they act and you aim your distaste for them TOWARDS their bikes and talk down about them... And now you're upset that some people seemed to take some exception to parts of what you had to say? Didn't really seem all that civil to begin with. ;)

I'm being pretty civil. I just wanted to understand why people act like idiots on bikes that they have no business being on. That's it and that's all. Some people took offense to that and got all butthurt. Hey if you got your feelings hurt I apologize. I'm sorry for asking a question, but I did it and that's that.

Because they're idiots... doesn't that go without saying? It's not a mystery.

No, they took offense to your condescending tone and talking down to people on literbikes in general. You made it sound like you think literbikes are stupid cuz you can't use all that power on the street and you should have a high level skill to even sit on one.
I get what you're trying to say, but.... what's the big deal? Life's too short to get so caught up in what other people want or do.

I read just fine, thanks. Hating something is disliking the whole entity for everything it is. Hating on something is disliking a certain part of that entity such as a behavior.

I said the squids on literbikes. If you are so sensitive about my opinion then do you think you're inexperienced and shouldn't be on a literbike?
I was asking why squids think they need them when their skills aren't up to the task. I never said anything about you or anyone with the skills to ride them properly.

While I appreciate the original message and question...the answer seems kinda obvious. Its peer pressure and vanity. Have a nice day.
