    My new ride

Last September I bought my first bike. It was a 1989' Ninja 500 and I put 3k miles on it between September and February of this year. Unless it was below freezing, I was out riding. This year I passed the Ninja on to another rider and found something else more my style. So here is my new bike, a 1991 Honda Nighthawk 750:

The day I brought it home:

(Only modification is the SuperTrapp 4-1 exhaust)

After removal of the backrest and a quick wipedown:

Any/all comments about the Nighthawk are appreciated. I did quite a bit of research on the history of the NH before picking this up and I think I bought a good bike. I got it dirty cheap anyways and I'm loving riding it so far. I have no plans to compete on a track with this thing because, well, I don't see it being a very good platform to build on (but I could be wrong). I just want it to look nice, sound nice, and keep up with my buddies. So yeah, if anyone knows good sources for info on the NH or deals on aftermarket parts, lmk. First thing I'm doing to this thing is a color change...

+1 on the backrest / luggage rack. Looks a lot nicer.

What color are you going to paint it?

    Satin black base
    Banner red design/accents

I've been taking a lot of design ideas from the Honda Hawk GT paint schemes. I'm trying to make it a little sportier looking but I like being "allowed" to ride with my Harley buddies, lol.

Nice ride! A step up from the previous steed, no doubt. How do you like that SuperCrapp? Sister had one on her NightChicken 700 and it was fricken awesome to listen to............................for the first 20 minutes of riding. Thing always sounded angry....very angry.

    Re: My new ride

Definitely some angry Gerbils in my exhaust...

At first, it kinda bugged me because IMO it has the same sound as a carb needing adjustment. Low RPM or when when the RPMs stabilize it "gurgles" but when I'm accelerating it sounds just dandy. One of the Nighthawk guys told me that it was normal for this type of exhaust and also that the SuperTrapp 4-1 is pretty rare to find nowadays for this bike so I've decided to just learn to love it. Once it rots out I have some shiny new OEM pipes to slap on there.

Time to make your own fender eliminator for it, and put on some cooler looking (straighter) bars. Then she'll be looking sweet!

Looks like a good find otherwise!

The buckhorn bars you have should be a comfy setup. I switched from buckhorn to drag bars on my harley and it was hell on my back. But I had forward controls. My feet and arms in front of me were not a comfy setup. Might different with your mids, but be mindful of looks over comfort, that was my lesson.

    Re: My new ride

The Mario stickers: The new bars are lower and cause my choke cable and throttle cable to both hit the tank at full-turn. The stickers on the tank are the thick gel-type and offer a bit of forgiveness in case I swing the bars too far. The mushroom on the speedo, well, I just threw that on there because I have a handful more stickers and I dig old-school Mario Bros.

    Re: My new ride

My buddy Cact up in Vt. that took my cover I put up for giveaway last weekend has a 91 Nighthawk750. I rode a NighthawkS I bought new in 1985 (2250.00) until last spring when I bought the Bandit1200>Concours14 tradeout. The S was a great bike, I put almost 90,000 miles on it. It had twin front rotors, shaft drive, hydraulic clutch and other maintenance-free goodies. Turn-key bikes, change the oil and ride em. It's now powering a go-kart that gets raced at Summit Point Raceway in West-By-Gawd Virginia. But those engines were something. 4-valves per cylinder, hydraulically-adjusted, they made around 80 horses at 10,750. I've seen em on police bikes in the Bahamas, Virgin Islands and in St. Thomas as recently as 4 or 5 years ago. I know the CB750 pictured has a chain, but it's largely the same bike as the S.

Good find. What'd ya pay for it, Gym-Josh?

    Re: My new ride

I paid $700.00 for it (found on craigslist). It has somewhere around 20k miles on it and I'm definitely loving it so far. I didn't know any US nighthawks came with dual front discs. Maybe only the older generation did? I'm not an expert on the model, obviously. I'm glad to hear everyone's positive feedback on the model. Thx.

Just realized that I have some www.nestreetriders.com stickers that I never put on my last bike. Now my mario stickers can go with a www.NEStreetriders.com logo (lol).
