Riding while pregnant

In my opinion its a bad move to ride in that state. The bottom line is that motorcycle accidents are common as are parking lot and stop light tipovers. You fall off a motorcycle on to your stomach its a risk for the baby, I dont care what statistics say, its a risk I wouldnt allow my wife to take thats for sure. Remember, its no comfort to find out you lost a baby b/c of a fall when 99.9% of others were OK. Statistics mean nothing when it happens to you.

Sure could you fall walking or going down the stairs etc, yes, but those are facets of life that are unavoidable, riding a motorcycle is elective.

Well that's just it. Doctors could be biased and talk without personal experience, just going with their opinions and from what it seems, very little facts or studies supporting their point of view, basically. I wanted to hear from people who ride and who might have been thru this, whether they had a positive experience (--> had no issues) or people who had negative experience (--> issues encountered). :)

why risk it? would you be able to live with yourself if something happened?

I love when people say this about continuing dangerous activities. the analogy is seriously flawed. Walking down the stairs in your house, driving your car, and walking on ice are generally things you have to do every so often. Its not the same as jumping on a motorcycle purely for your own enjoyment. Just because you could get hurt during daily activities doesnt make it ok to add extra needless dangerous activities.

Personally I wouldnt do it, and I know my wife wouldnt do it if she rode. I dont care if it even offers .01% chance of damage to the baby, its not worth it. Why? so you dont miss riding for one year?

In the end it seems like a no brainer to me. Its your decision, PLEASE ask and trust your doctor.

Of course...but there are those who seem to lack a normal quota of this. Further, as this thread shows, common sense varies dramatically depending on what one WANTS to hear...

I'm not sure if you are insinuating that I WANT to hear that it's ok for me to ride. Of course it would be nice, but I genuinly want all opinions, not just positive ones. And I am considering all replies in here, I will not be closed minded and want to weight in everything in the balance. In the end, I might very well just put the bike away...

just go enemenem.... something like that.

as a woman who will one day have kids, I don't think I would get on a motorcycle while pregnant. As much as I would enjoy every second I could have on the bike, it just presents a little too much risk (in a very general sense). Although I don't think I would listen to anyone else telling me that I couldn't do it, I definately would choose to put away the bike for one season and pick it back up the next season.

call me crazy but i think riding while preggars is irresponsible - but what do i know?

No problem. Miscarriages happen - with the advent of ultrasound we are much better at diagnosing them early. It is nature's way to making sure the human race only improves with time. PM me if you have any specific questions. Congratulations on your pregnancy.

I'd say at a certain point in the pregnancy, there will be a time when you shouldn't ride anymore. You may want to adjust your suspension soft so your body isn't whiplashing on bumps in the road. Just a suggestion if you decide on it. Ultamately, you'd think its a delecate process inside there which jarring movements could create a problem. Then again, if people ride horses pregnant, they don't have suspension.:dunno:

I don't know, besides an accident I just can't see riding a mc as being bad for "two up" riding. At least the first few months.

Seems even motorcyclists have bought into the fear mongering safety agenda that is defining the U.S. government, insurance, and medicine. I'm a little stunned, but not really. The oppressed always internalize the oppressor.

My wife was a labor & delivery nurse, and saw it all. From paranoid mombies, to girls who delivered babies they didn't even know they were carrying. Life is both fragile, and incredibly tenacious.

Do what YOU feel is reasonable, but know that all over the world women are riding motorcycles while pregnant, and even carrying infants while riding and surviving just fine. Don't forget also, that people do get hurt and killed riding and you can make your decision. Don't let people's judgements bother you... cause they are going to judge you no matter what.

Exactly. Others do horseback riding (which is MUCH more physical than any bike ride, makes your body jump, and involve great risks of a fall, etc.), others keep on doing strainuous activities such as working out, jogging, etc. all these activities "could" cause a miscarriage or other potential problems. Yet, many women keep on doing what they love for just a little while longer and they are just fine.

I think this is a matter of personal choice, and wouldn't classify one as being irresponsible, immature or not being a good mom because they make the choice to keep on riding for a month or two. Besides, like I already said, "if" I decide to keep on riding for a month or two, it's going to be strictly cruising at a mellow pace and be even more vigilant with my surroundings. So far tho...the bike is been sitting on my front porch, poor thing. :(

LOL...there is no stirring the pot, it's a discussion... :) I did say I value everyone's opinions, and still am not sure what I'll do, because I do consider the negatives also...I'm just saying, if I do choose to keep on riding for a little while, won't make me a bad mom.
