    Riding/Racing injuries

Hey folks- doing some research and thought a poll may help me out in my inquiries. Whether you personally have been injured or you know of someone, or just the general talk you hear: what do you perceive as the most common riding/racing related injury? Thanks for your responses!

my search is based mostly on fractures/breaks, but feel free to post what you consider the most common injury below if it is not represented in the poll as well.

Dirt too, certainly! Would be interesting to hear what most common injury is in asphalt vs dirt... hmm.

Meowkay... Then 2 broken ankles and a broken hand. The hand and one ankle injury happened at the same time. High speed head on in the woods coming around a blind corner. Second broken ankle happened when I rode off a 12' cliff. That was a big oops. Both while wearing full motox gear.

I've actually have had some difficulty finding official documents on it. I've found a few articles from doctor's journals but they are usually extremely outdated. If anyone knows of any studies please post up, thanks

doesnt really fit into any of those categories.

didnt really meet the person, but was a friend of the family for a long time. about 20 years back he ended up crashing into a guard rail and got decapitated.

fractured ribs, separated shoulder, broken wrist and broken finger, 3 herniated discs. all racing except the spine. That was a head on with a car...

Separated shoulder and crushed pinky finger (which required two surgeries). You never know how useful the pinky finger is until you aren't permitted to use it for a month or two.

    Re: Riding/Racing injuries

Out of my 8 crashes (2 track, 6 street, none racing) I've only had a some minor rashing, sore muscles, and a decent concussion.
    Lucky.
    Good luck with your research!

Well out of all my dirt crashes and my one roadbike crash, I'd say my pride was hurt the most! Several offroad crashes that I'm not proud of..but knock on wood, no broken bones.

    Re: Riding/Racing injuries

    try google for :

    "The Hurt Report"
(AKA "Motorcycle Accident Cause Factors and Identification of Countermeasures")

A brief summary of the findings is listed below. To order the full report, contact:

    National Technical Information Service
    5285 Port Royal Road
    Springfield, Virginia 22161
    (703)-487-4600

this is a pretty well known source. Call them up, chat, they may point you to other directions etc.

I don't know if these guys estimate actual vs. reported, since there are quite a few accidents that never get reported for various reasons.

Falling doesn't hurt my ego. I've learned to ski, snowboard surf, etc. and I know that falling is just part of learning any dynamic sport. If you've never fallen, you're prolly not learning all that much.

    Re: Riding/Racing injuries

I think I hear collar bone and wrist the most with spinal injuries close behind.
    Personally:
Street accident ribs and 2 disks in my spine. never any rash.
Loudon racing wrist and ribs never any rash.
