I am a EMT down here in my area see a ton of MC accidents due to the time of year. We just had one about a week and change ago. Guy was estimated to be doing over a 100 on some type of rocket and dipped into the corner way to fast ended up in the other lane clipped a car and when we got there half his face was gone and his chest split wide open from sliding across the pavement.

Also had a friend about a few weeks ago do a wheelie down the street and slammed into a old rescue split his head and face wide open. 80+ stitches in his face and his jaw is STILL wired shut.

Will try to get some pics from the next one!

MacNCheese that sucks! Gotta be hard to get on a bike sometimes after being on scene at things like that... Not that gear will always save you if you are being overly stupid but yeah....wow...

I have yet to get road rash but its because I wear gear. Doesnt mean Ive escaped injury.

This is through a top quality helmet. I know if I had bought a cheap one Id probably be enjoying coloring books for Christmas.

This is what my bike looked like.

This isnt the best shot but this is from a different crash. This is through a Vanson armored suit. This photo is about 2 weeks removed from hitting the ground. Still hurts and its been about 2 months now.

Your friend wants to stay far away from road rash. Levis dont count as gear. They are good for about 1/4 inch of sliding if hes lucky.

But *that* won't ever happen to *me.*

The piece of gear I don't wear religiously, and I know I'm taking a calculated risk on, are over-/riding pants.

My girlfriend, who has mostly only ridden on the back of my bikes (and in the parking lot with her Ninja 250), started acquiring gear as soon as we figured out it we wanted to ride two up.

I don't have my own pics of road rash, but I can say, that if I hadn't been wearing gear when I was hit ... things would have fared differently.

My elbow would be in disarray these days if not for the armour and jacket... Just imagine a nice lowside on pavement instead...

As someone may have said... just have him wear what he thinks is appropriate... and drag him across the parking lot at 35mph... Should answer any questions he has about road rash.

It is but you just get used to it. The hospital calls them Donar cycles lol. Keeps us in business I guess. I will try to get some pics from the accidents. There is a video on youtube where the guy crashed at upwards of 200 mph and was fine! Except for a broken color bone because he wore his gear. He slid for a football field and a half!

I got a half mil in life insurance, almost 200 dollars worth a month of insurance on the bike, and every receipt for the bike! Its the other clowns I am worried about on the road. You can be the best rider on the road its the 90 year old grandma's you got to watch out for!

And jeans are the worst it will get embedded in your skin which they either scrub out or surgery remove. The worst is plastic pants because the stuff MELTS into your skin from the heat of the friction and they have to cut it out.

    My crash from September

The worse pain was not the crash,

The pain, is the hours of scrubbing these wounds with a sponge every night for 2 weeks. Pure pain.

I don't have any pics because I didn't get hurt but I lowsided in turn 2 the other day going at a good clip. Went down, slid and made it almost to the wall going down track from the corner I went down in. Not a scratch on me. My suit (which isn't even a brand new fancy one) gloves (cortech gauntlets), boots (A* SMX-5's), back protector (ICON Field gear, same one on the 600rr pic with the nail in it) and helmet (not a scratch on it, SHOEI) did their jobs. I expected to have something, a bruise, a mark, scuff, something...but not a single mark. Got the bike up, got it back to the pits, did the last 3 sessions of the day and all the sessions the next day THANKS TO MY GEAR!!!!!!
