Sad moment indeed. Hadn't even broken 300 miles yet. I won't go into detail on the event but a stupid mistake lead to the ninja hitting pavement. Snapped the front break lever in half (as designed it appears). Other than that just some minor scratches on the right-side center cowling (the big fairing with the decals on it). Unfortunately it ripped the decals a bit too but the area is no bigger than a baseball. I'm going to leave it as it is for now to remind me of my sins. Eventually I'll shell out the ~350 to replace it. My hope is that none of you will share that feeling of dread and idiocy when you drop a brand new bike.

ouch. Sucks man.
My roommate just recently dropped his 848 in our driveway too.
Happens to everyone.
Well hurst...that's good news really. Whenever I get a new bike the first thing I do is hit it somewhere with a hammer to blemish the perfection...get it out of the way early!
..and I'd leave it that way too...

Do you have sliders? I've dropped my bike in my driveway like 5 times, sliders saved it every time.

Sucks dude-
I just got a leftover 08 ZX6R on a great deal from Flamingo Motorsports in Palmer. The first thing I did was Shogun sliders and rear swingarm spools from here:

Its the stupid 08' zx6r kickstand, they made it sit up too high. I dropped mine the day I bought it. I suggest replacing it with the ZZR kickstand, it makes the bike sit at more of an angle. I think its lame that Kawasaki won't admit their mistake. TONS of people have dropped their bikes because of it.
a lot of kawi's are like that, my side stand sits the bike way too vertically, always scares me

I have noticed that it does sit very high. Nice for saving space when you park. Not so nice when you get on the seat with too much force...over she goes.

hey, at least it wasn't at a stop light or something with a crowd watching. *Everyone* has dropped their bike at some point, or they eventually will....comes with the territory. So brush off your shoulder bro![]()

Very easy although I was nervous after having read about all the stripped bolt issues on zxforums.com.
The left side was an hex socket and the right side was a regular bolt. The left side requires nothing other then taking out the old bolt and putting in the new. The right side requires you to shift the fairing forward a little to get full access to the that bolt. The wifey helped with that. I would definitely recommend a breaker bar to get both sides loose though. Torque specs on both sides is 33 foot pounds- I double checked this with the 07-08 factory manual. Let me know if you want a copy, I have it on a PDF.
They were shipped VERY fast. The product appears to be of a high quality. I would recommend them and from that vendor.
I will post pics once the weather gets better. I only have 130 miles on it so far- I bought the bike just last Weds...

Bummer....done that too.. but luckily on grass.
Get on EBay and get yourself another one for less than a new OEM costs.
Plenty of racers get rid of the near new stock ones all the time.
Or better yet why not just remove the decal, buff and replace the decal.
The decal will hide most of it damage!
Then get frame sliders for sure.

I really want to know how you dropped it
I dropped the Z in the driveway the day I go it, Kawasaki side stands do suck, I hardly ever leave it on the side stand when I'm at home, don't trust it.
I have yet to drop my Z, but my sister did dump my 01 Ninja 250 on its side this last weekend after hitting a curb at 5mph.
Twisted the triple clamp, bent the forks, cracked the front fender and part of the right fairing, cracked the windscreen, scratched up the bar ends and somehow bent both the clutch (how?) and brake lever - the brake lever looks like a U right now.
It's amazing how much damage you can do to a bike in a low speed fall.

Don't sweat it man.....shit happens. It is what it is right
Ask Joel about dropping a bike at a stoplight one time. His shoelace got caught on the shifter.

A guy I know dropped his Kawi right in his mother's driveway. It's a cryin' shame. Luckily, no one else was home at the time besides moms.
