    Shoei chinstrap replacement

Hey there. I have a RF1200 and the edge of the strap got a pull near the snap and is unravelling a bit. I was going to contact Shoei to see if thats a warranty item. Anyone ever have such an unravelling and if so how was it resolved?
    thanks.

    Re: Shoei chinstrap replacement

Found this on Reddit as it had me a bit curious.

    Shoei chinstrap replacement-3369610d-73f7-47df-804e-5e5a40ff631e

Did a search and looks like there isn’t a replacement part available to purchase for chin strap, just the chin strap cover.

I wouldn't be surprised they don't offer a replacement strap to the public. So many things could go wrong. In my experience Arai ( when I started riding I wanted a shoei so much but the Arai fit me better) service has been outstanding. I crashed a helmet once which resulted in superficial damage. I contacted Arai. They told me to send it in. Helmet got inspected and sent back to me with a clean bill or health. I'm 100% sure if it was not safe they would have not sent it back to me. I would suspect Shoei would be similar.

I tried this a couple years. There is no replacing it. Shoei considers a safety risk if its done so they dont make spares available. They will tell you to throw the helmet away.
Have you tried using a lighter to melt the strap to stop it from falling apart?

Thanks all. I will call them today. I can definitely see how they would consider it a no go for end user replacement. I thought about the lighter/heat gun fix but figured I will talk to them first. Right now its cosmetic but who knows how long until a major unravel. Sucks too as its only on its 3rd season.

Seeing that picture, I would have no problem using a heat gun to seal up the fibers at the end. When you tighten the strap, you are much higher up where everything is fine.

Called Shoei. They said send it back and as long as helmet is safe (not crash damaged) they will replace strap and return it to me. Said unravelling strap is a mfg defect.

Not at all surprised considering my experience with Arai. Glad it is seeming to work out good for you.
