Re: How do you signal that there's fuzz around?
Had no idea the headlight flash was illegal. I would fight that in court if I was ever cited.
That said, I could not find any statutes in NH regarding this. Closest I could find was:
266:78-e Other Flashing Lamps Prohibited. – Only authorized emergency vehicles may be equipped with a device that provides for alternate flashing of headlamps.
Source. 2008, 358:12, eff. Sept. 9, 2008.
Can anyone share the NH statute that prohibits the flashing of headlights to warn other operators?

Obstruction of justice?

Here's the applicable statute for that (the one specifically called "obstruction of justice" is reserved for more serious stuff (felonies)):
642:1 Obstructing Government Administration. –
I. A person is guilty of a misdemeanor if that person uses intimidation, actual or threatened force or violence, simulated legal process, or engages in any other unlawful conduct with a purpose to hinder or interfere with a public servant, as defined in RSA 640:2, II, performing or purporting to perform an official function or to retaliate for the performance or purported performance of such a function.
Since one would have to "engage in unlawful conduct" to be guilty of this crime, and there's no law against flashing headlights (at least that I could find), I'm thinking any ticket issued for flashing lights would be worth fighting, unless the statute against it is plainly written and I'm just unable to find it.

Haha. A few weeks ago I flashed an approaching car to warn them of a speed trap...and it turned out to be another cop.
I hope they slowed down.

Re: How do you signal that there's fuzz around?
I know we have some very friendly and responsible LEOs on this board, but any LEO citing someone for warning of a speed trap, takes his job way too seriously and probably shouldn't be granted that level of power / responsibility in the first place.
Or, he's way down on meeting his quota....
-
Re: How do you signal that there's fuzz around?
No such thing as a "quota".
At least not in any of the departments that I know of, and/or any in the state of VT. Quotas are bad for PR and also for morale. If there is a "quota" it will be for contacts or number of stops (activity), not for tickets or warnings. The discretion resides with the Officer.
Statistically (from what I have seen anyways), road cops tend to issue tickets only about 1/3rd of the time. The other 2/3rds are warnings. It varies from officer to officer based on experience, discretion, demeanor etc... but generally that is what I have found.

Do you mean the passing switch on your left clip-on? I've never used it to pass and currently have mine wired to the push-to-talk on my comms. I've heard of others wiring it to garage door openers and such. Never heard of it being used for it's actual purpose but that's just me.

Re: How do you signal that there's fuzz around?
^lol, i forget its even there sometimes.

I always forget I have a passing light trigger. I need to use it more, just cause it's there.

Unless you're doing it to a Harley rider in NH... they just seem to think you're telling them to wear a helmet.
I've also seen people pointing their index finger up and swirling it around to indicate a cop's revolving blue lights. But the helmet tap seems to be more common.

of course they're friendly or they wouldn't be here.

Re: How do you signal that there's fuzz around?
ok we get the slow signal. what's for speedup signal?
-
Re: How do you signal that there's fuzz around?
I use my flasher anytime someone looks like they are going to turn across my lane.
I DO flash for speed traps
There is no quota, quota bad, bad quota
It just that the LEO would be questioned why he/she did not write as many citations as the other officers on similar patrols. Explained how fines contribute to the general fund and pay for salaries and equipment.
Kham what's the I am an Asian operator signal?

Re: How do you signal that there's fuzz around?
Hmm, I'd say based on my experience, it's 90% of the time they write a ticket, the other 10% they just pistol whip me.
